Marcus and Courtney first met in October 2020 when their mutual friends, Catthy and Kendall, hosted a Halloween party at Marcus’s home. Courtney had just transferred to UT Dallas from UT San Antonio, and with the pandemic in full swing, she only knew a handful of people — mostly the sorority sisters of her best friend, Ally. On the way to decorate for the party, Kendall and Catthy told her they were sure she’d think Marcus was cute, though she had no plans of meeting anyone that night. When she arrived, she immediately put Marcus to work hanging decorations she couldn’t reach. Later that night, Marcus even tried to set her up with one of his friends, but she politely declined. They chatted, took a few photos together, and went their separate ways. A month later, fate stepped in again at Kendall’s birthday party. Marcus greeted everyone with hugs except Courtney (he barely knew her; she was just being dramatic), and her ego took just enough of a hit for her to decide that by the end of the night, he was going to like her. They ended up talking on the couch all night about anything and everything — though neither remembers exactly what. By the end of the night, they’d exchanged numbers and made plans to hang out. Their first hangout on November 23, 2020, was at Marcus’s house. The plan was simple — watch a movie. But instead of watching, Courtney spent the entire time talking. When she realized the movie had ended without Marcus seeing a single scene, she began explaining the entire plot. Convinced he wasn’t having fun, she tried to leave, but Marcus invited her to tag along to the grocery store at 1 a.m., where he ate toaster strudels while she watched — and that was that. Courtney assumed he wasn’t interested and ignored his texts for a week or two until they reconnected at a bonfire. They talked and laughed the night away and were disappointed to part for winter break until realizing they lived just 10 minutes apart in Round Rock and Pflugerville. From then on, they were inseparable. By January 2021, Courtney admitted she knew she loved him. On February 5, 2021, Marcus made it official, asking her to be his girlfriend during a picnic at White Rock Lake. Since then, they’ve spent the past five years traveling together — from Hawaii and the Pacific Northwest to Hungary, Costa Rica, and beyond. They’ve graduated college, started their careers, and created a home together in Dallas. They share a love for hiking, sight-seeing, laughing, and enjoying life’s simple moments. They balance each other perfectly and truly are one another’s best friend. On October 10, 2025, during one of their spontaneous weekend getaways, Marcus and Courtney set out to explore Hot Springs, Arkansas, escaping the chaos of Dallas and Austin during OU vs. UT and ACL weekend. They spent the day exploring Bathhouse Row and crossing their sixth National Park off the list. Courtney wanted to visit Garvan Woodland Gardens to see the koi ponds and treehouses — but Marcus had something else planned. At an overlook of Lake Catherine, while Courtney thought they were just taking photos as usual, Marcus gave a heartfelt, private speech and asked her to marry him. Through happy tears and laughter, Courtney said yes. Though the couple married in a private civil ceremony on their fifth anniversary together, February 5th, 2026, Marcus and Courtney can’t wait to celebrate their union with their closest family and friends. They adore their story of going from strangers to soulmates and embrace each other’s quirks more every day. Growing up only minutes apart, they share fond memories of the same places and experiences unique to their childhoods. Despite living so close for nearly 14 years, every step that led them to meet hundreds of miles from home feels like fate. They’re endlessly thankful for their bond and cannot wait to spend forever together. Cheers to marrying your best friend and a lifetime of laughter and love!
