Groom

Cody was raised in upstate NY, moved to SLC for Job Corp, and then moved to CA. Cody's motto is "work smart, not hard" but no one can deny all of his effort and determination when he sets his mind to accomplishing something. Cody is very proud of all of his achievements and his journey to reach them. Cody had previously received several auto mechanic certifications and worked as a technician at a Sacramento dealership. But he knew he wanted something more challenging and was brave enough to leave that field to pursue an education and new career. He started his higher education journey at American River College, saving money and making himself competitive enough to be accepted at UC Davis, one of the top schools in the country. He successfully completed his BS in managerial economics in 2019. He is now studying to become a CPA while working as an accountant for a local property management firm. He is a perfect balance to Cali: he is relaxed, collected, outgoing, athletic, proactive, fearless, direct, and always knows how to make her laugh!

Cali Roth

Bride

Cali grew up in Akron, Ohio and spent a few years in North Dakota before moving to CA. She is an extroverted introvert who loves everyday adventures and always finds fun! She cherishes the little things in life, like a good mocha, nature walks, kitschy local festivals, or listening to The Killers on a long drive. Her curiosity and enthusiasm for the natural world drew her to an MS in biology and her job as a biologist for the USGS. She is proud of all she's accomplished: she hated math but now programs for a living, she's traveled well beyond her midwestern roots, she's taken on so many challenges and joys alone, and she has maintained a weight loss of 75 lbs. She cherishes that's she's seen and driven so much of the US, including some of the loneliest and wild places, and can't wait to see and do more. Cali's default is to be awkward and reserved but she thrives in casual social settings and can become obnoxiously loud if something sets her off. She balances Cody: she's reserved, passionate, sassy, active, enthusiastic, social, deliberate, and Cody loves her crazy laugh!

John J. Roth - "Booboo"

Man of Honor

Cali's bestest friend for her whole life and fellow fountain drink lover. John has a quirky, disturbing sense of humor that he delivers with such dryness you don't know if he's kidding or not. He is reserved but fiercely loyal to loved ones and ideals. He's considerate and patient to a fault and is always ready to lend a helping hand or make someone's life a little easier. He seems meek but likes to experience new things and is down for anything, anytime whether it's an errand to the store or a cross country flight. He loves wearing funky clothes and limited release shoes, so look out for his fashion choices on the big day! He likes ice cream, getting his team euchred with way too aggressive playing, visiting family, and putting gas in Cali's car for her.

Joel Hughes

Best Man

Joel has been Cody's good friend since they were five years old. They grew up together in Whitney Point, NY. They've kept in touch over the years and several moves and were able to met up again when Cody visited DC. Joel is a police officer in Alexandria, VA. He was awarded for his life saving actions on the job!

Cindy Martell

Mother of the Groom

Cindy is an amazingly kind and giving person who freely shows her love. She is fiercely devoted to her family, especially her two children Brandi and Cody. She immediately took Cali under her wing as part of the family and made her feel at home thousands of miles away from her hometown. She is always cheerful and optimistic and sees the best in everything. She's the family's cheerleader: quick to offer support when you are down and celebrate with you when you are excited. Beneath all of her persistent exuberence is a resilient woman who lives life with no regrets. She embraces her past and pushes forward to brighter days. She taught Cody to be positive, outgoing, determined, and to approach life with grace, always keeps the really important things in perspective. She's given Cali her motherly love and support and taught her the best ways to annoy Cody and gang up on him😜 Cindy is a program analyst for the state of California.

Marilouise Roth

Mother of the Bride

Marilou is always ready to go above and beyond for her loved ones and always puts family first. She is the support beam of the Roth household. Cali will always look back fondly at Taco Bell for dinner when Dad was working at the fire station, blockbuster movie nights, tic tacs in church, shopping at the mall together and Auntie Anne's pretzels, being introduced to Mr Hero's Roman burgers, bath and body works splurges, trips to Parason's, Valentine's day gifts from work's gift shop, and chores in her office after school. Marilou taught Cali emotional intelligence and the beauty of strong bonds with friends. She set an example as a humble, hard working woman who was both an accomplished professional and family matriarch and these lessons shaped Cali into an ambitious and disciplined woman who balances work and life, values friends like family, and enjoys the little things in life. She taught Cali the value and beauty in meekness and how to accept life's unfairness with grace. Marilou is a project manager for physicians services at summa hospital in Akron, OH.

Ted Martell

Father of the Groom

Ted is a rich and wise personality. He's extremely well versed and knowledgeable in a variety of subjects like history, religion, and business so he always has something enlightening to add to any interaction. With his MBA, Ted has been a mentor to Cody as he pursues managerial economics and accounting, enthusiastically giving advice and sharing his experience. And Ted is an open book to everyone! Easy-going and affable, he quickly and amicably joins any conversation. He's a great sport, quick to add laughter into the mix with a self-deprecating joke (although don't underestimate his ability to come up with a playful zinger at your expense!). Ted is almost never at a loss for words and has the unique ability to be both formal and sincere, such as a ceremonious speech to celebrate his loved ones' successes or commemorate family over dinner. But Ted's most outstanding attribute is his warmth. Ted is a program analyst for the state of California.

John F. Roth

Father of the Bride

John has always worked too hard to provide the Roth family with all their wants and needs. Cali cherishes her childhood memories of him and ice cream cones with candy eyes, wooden playgrounds, climbing around at Hocking Hills, putt-putt golf, family dinners at El Campesino, fountain drinks after school, running errands for fun, long walks with the dogs, listening to loud music and radio news, ollie ollie oxen free, summer cookouts, and euchre. John has instilled his love of long road trips and sense of wonder that led her to become the adventurous woman she is today. He taught her to be aware of what is happening in the world around her and to play an active part in it, always giving 100% to everything she does and taking pride in her work. He also taught her to stand up for herself and speak out even when it's uncomfortable. John retired from the City of Akron fire department and keeps busy as a house renovation contractor.

David DeCarr

Officiant

Dave is a generous and hospitable soul who is always happy to open his home to family and friends. His welcoming demeanor made Cali feel immediately accepted in the family the moment she walked into his home. He is an amazing cook who makes the best wings and (salt potatoes) ever. He loves music and plays in a band, and his parties always have the possibility of karaoke! Dave appreciates a good craft beer and Cali enjoys discussing local brews with him. As Cody's uncle and godfather, Dave has always been a big part of Cody's support system and Cody's spiritual advisor. He is an amazingly genuine and kind person. Dave works as an academic personnel and staff analyst at UC Davis.

Brandi Martell

Wedding Planner

Brandi is a lifesaver who graciously offered to act as the wedding coordinator! She is an extremely competent, organized person who takes pride in what she does. She has a good eye for what is both tasteful and practical with her background in theater and broadcasting. She is great at reading people and remembering little details to personalize things and make them really meaningful. She has a big heart and loves using her creativity to make things fun and unique, whether it be decorations for an amazing halloween display or a year late 30th bday for Cali (llama banner!). Brandi has a sharp sense of humor and quick wit that always keeps you snickering. She is also extremely well versed in music, theater arts, and pop culture. She is direct, no-nonsense, and driven. She works as an administrative assistant for the state of California. Cali is super excited to gain such a cool big sister!

Taquito

Groomscat

Taquito is 2 years old and loves cronchies, his sparkle balls, and his cactus scratching post. His hobbies include begging for human food he doesn't actually want to eat, sunning in the guest room, watching the water come out of the dispenser, and letting Violet beat him up. He doesn't purr or make biscuits very well but he's really good at stalking his toys, ekekeking at hummingbirds, and chasing down treats. He only meows when he really really wants something but when he does, he gets whatever he wants. He respects Cody but climbs all over Cali like she's a cat tree when she doesn't pet him immediately. Taquito warms Cali and Cody's hearts with his well-mannered and simple sweetness and his gross obsession with his big sissy, Violet.

Violet

Bridescat

Violet is 4 years old and she's perfect in every way. Actually she's a total brat. She needs special bowls to stop her from eating too fast, whines when Taquito beats her at wrassling, won't let Cody or Cali sleep in, demands food 2 hours early, purposefully gets into trouble to get attention, and "sings" at 2 AM. But she is so cute and loving that she gets away with it all. She melts your heart when she cuddles and purrs and makes biscuits on your lap when it's cold. She's a people cat, always chirping and meowing at her mom and dad. She hates being away from Cali and will get a big mood if she's gone too long. Her hobbies include letting the world know she's starving, living room parkour, smacking the blinds, watching the closet door for possible escaped feeder crickets (for Carl the tarantula), and eating spider webs out on the balcony. She enriches Cali and Cody's lives with her bold personality, ridiculous antics, and slightly pathetic love.

Carl

Bridestarantula

Carl is a tarantula. A fast, huge, grouchy tarantula. A girl tarantula?? Carl likes to bury his water dish, sit on the cage door so Cali can't feed him, web everything up, and occasionally lay an egg sac. Carl travelled with Cali all the way from ND, surviving a car accident in Utah, a police car, a tow truck, denied permission to fly on an airplane, and being poorly packed in the USPS mail and sent to CA. Somehow he miraculously survived his journey and is now happy in a dark closet, forever undisturbed and full of crickets.

Bridescat

Tibbs only has one eye, but she can still see all the love between her mom and dad. She is a gross gutter cat that Cody decided to steal from the neighborhood feral cat colony. She enjoys eating people food directly from your plate, biting people, making Violet hiss, and chasing spring toys while making adorable squeaky noises.
