How We Met

02/04/2017

Cali had just moved to California from North Dakota to start her job as a biologist with USGS and Cody was just starting his higher education journey after a career as an automotive technician. They met online through OkCupid and Cody offered to give Cali a tour of Woodland, where he lived, for their first date. He told her to meet him downtown on the corner of College Street and Dead Cat Alley. Cali immediately quipped it was an unsettling place to meet a virtual stranger 😜 That brand of playful humor was mutual and they really hit it off! He showed her around historic downtown, walking by all the cute boutiques and antique stores and the beautiful library and courthouse. After the tour they got coffee (which Cody doesn't even drink) followed by dinner, just so they could keep talking. They both felt immediate admiration for each other's ambitious goals and they bonded over sharing roots back east (OH and NY). Little did they know that this was the start of their journey: Dead Cat Alley would be their favorite joke on their evening strolls downtown, College Street would be the address of their first apartment together, their engagement photos would be taken among those historic downtown buildings, and Woodland would be where they were married ❤️

The Proposal

2/16/2020

They spent the 2020 Valentine's Day weekend in Monterey, Cali's favorite place in California. Cody asked to add a hike to their itinerary with the stipulation it had to include a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean with a sweeping view. He let Cali pick the exact location for the hike and she decided on renowned Point Lobos State Park. After consulting a park ranger, they decided on a hike to Whaler's Knoll, which offered a near 360 view of the coast. When they got to the top, they had the entire beautiful view to themselves! Cody suggested they take a photo together (one of Cali's usual requests 😂) and when she turned around from taking the selfie with the ocean in the background (don't judge😝) he was there with his great grandmother's ring! She said yes after much celebratory dancing and squealing. Humorously, Cody had gotten poison ivy from an earlier hike and Cali chastised him for itching the entire way to the top of the knoll, but he was really checking to make sure the ring hadn't fallen out of his pocket during the climb up!

The Wedding Location

4/30/2023

The Gibson House is a historic landmark in Yolo county but it also has special meaning to Cody and Cali. On a drive around town, Cody pointed out the Gibson House as a beautiful wedding venue. This was the first formal mention of their relationship having marriage potential. Even though they hadn't been dating long at that point, it felt like their future was unfolding in that moment. Cali filed the Gibson House away as an eventuality!

Registry

Our First Home Fund

Cali and Cody are saving for a home to house all their love in! Please consider contributing to their first home down payment fund. In lieu of a traditional registry, they have set up an online cash fund as a paperless option: https://registry.theknot.com/cali-roth-cody-weise-april-2022-ca/51741893
