The Wednesday before the Thursday before Mother's Day - I took myself out to eat the night before the first day of the farm stand season. Serendipitously, the restaurant I wanted to go to was closed, so I found myself at Tuckerbox, the Turkish restaurant where Christian worked. Even though I wasn't in his section, Christian came over and struck up a conversation. We instantly connected and by the end of my meal, we both secretly wanted to ask the other out, but neither of us took the leap. Fate rolled her eyes and made our paths cross multiple times in the following six months. It wasn't until November, at Lucky's when I was once again where Christian worked, that we re-connected and agreed to a first date.

For the first time in a long time, we were free of responsibilities and excited to enjoy each other's company. I knew, well hoped, a proposal was on the horizon, but I had no idea what Christian was planning. We went out for dinner and headed home for our favorite thing: eating ice cream in bed. Everything was normal; we were talking about life, our little family and all the tribulations we'd recently been through. But Christian started pacing the room and looking all nervous. About to take my first spoonful of ice cream, I asked if he was okay; he knelt down beside the bed and said, "Well, I have something to ask you," revealing a ring, "Will you marry me?" I was amazed, surprised, awestruck; the moment I had always dreamt of, it had arrived, it was right then, there, happening. Through my awe, I said "Of course!" Us, no frills or fuss, just us exactly as we love to be, made the decision to be together forever.

We felt an unwavering draw to get married in Vermont; it's our home state and we couldn't imagine a celebration anywhere else. Similarly, nature and the open air beckoned to be on the guest list.
