FAQs

Question

Covid Safety

Answer

We’re asking all guests to please wear a mask, unless actively eating or drinking. Wedding activities including dining will be held outdoors, weather permitting. Please dress accordingly and keep a safe 6ft distance between you and other guests while on island.

Question

Do I need a Covid test or vaccination?

Answer

If spending the night, guests will need to provide a recent negative test result, and proof of vaccination. This is the island's hotel policy. For those coming for the day, you only need a recent test result if you are not vaccinated.

Question

How will I get to the island?

Answer

Travel by ferry. We have chartered a ferry out of 1870 Ocean Blvd, Rye, NH 03870 at 1:30pm on Saturday, June 12, 2021.

Question

What should I wear to the wedding?

Answer

Wear what makes you feel confident and comfortable, although I do ask you to avoid white. Remember the venue is an island so please wear flats or wedges, and bring a layer to stay warm.

Question

Can I bring my children?

Answer

Yes! The island is very family-friendly. There are 2 playgrounds and a small marine lab for the children to explore. *Please just let us know in advance so we have child-friendly food and activities prepared.

Question

Can I bring my pet?

Answer

Guests are not permitted to have pets on Star Island. Service animals are welcomed, but we ask that you provide us with advanced notice by contacting Justina Maji, Conference Center Director (jmaji@starisland.org).

Question

Is the island accessible to all needs?

Answer

Mostly. Anyone from 0-100 plus can enjoy the island, with the right preparations. The island is filled with lots of stairs and rocky paths, however, if you let use know in advance the island motorized vehicle can transport passengers from the dock up to the main buildings and to other locations throughout your stay. Bed rails, walking sticks, walkers, and wheelchairs are also available on the island. See the front desk or email fas@starisland.org if you would like to use one of these during your stay. All locations used for the wedding will have wheelchair ramps. Overnight accommodations are available for mobility-impaired individuals. If you have accessibility concerns, we suggest that you check with the island registrar or conference registrar to see if our facilities will accommodate your needs. If you need accommodations on a first floor or near a bathroom, or require an electrical outlet for a medical device, please indicate such on your registration form.

Question

Will I have cell coverage and wifi on island?

Answer

This is new to the island, but yes there is now wifi and more cell coverage.

Question

If I stay overnight, can I lock my room?

Answer

There are no locks for most of the sleeping quarters, and guests are not furnished with keys. You can lock the door inside at night, but not once you leave. This is a safety measure in the event of a fire and to prevent children from locking themselves in a room. The island is incredibly safe, and we will practically be the only ones on island. If you are traveling with valuables and would feel more comfortable with having a locked space, there is a locked closet in Newton Centre, and its key can be picked up at the Front Desk by the appropriate conference staff when you arrive and returned to the Front Desk before leaving the island.

Question

Can I smoke on island?

Answer

Star Island is an old island made of wood structures, so fire is their chief concern, and thus smoking is only allowed while in the presence of a red butt can. Butt cans are located in designated areas and cannot be moved. Smoking and the lighting of any open flame are prohibited in all buildings. There is no smoking where combustible materials (such as propane tanks) are present. Due to the danger of brush fires, smoking is not permitted on the grounds on any part of the island, including the rocks. Violators of this policy will be required to leave the island on the next available boat.
