Question

Is Dubrovnik safe?

Answer

YES! Dubrovnik is one of the safest cities in the region, with very low crime rates. As with any tourist destination, the biggest concerns are pickpockets, overpriced taxis, and scams (and we didn't personally see any of these on our trip). Just be mindful of your belongings and surroundings, but otherwise cut loose and have fun!

Question

Do I have to do a lot of walking in Dubrovnik?

Answer

The amount of walking you do is totally up to you. When we went, we stayed on the hillside of the Old Town, and walked all over the town's streets and walls. But, if you stay in the flat section of the Old Town or in other parts of the city, you may not do as much walking. Note that there are no cars in the Old Town, but it's small enough that you won't have to walk far to find places to eat or things to do. We still recommend a good pair of walking shoes though!

Question

What is the food like?

Answer

Dubrovnik has a wide variety of food options, and has historically been a meeting point between Mediterranean food and the more inland Balkan/Slavic foods. With an abundance of seafood, Italian-style dishes, and traditional Croatian cuisine, you'll have plenty to choose from!

Question

What currency does Croatia use?

Answer

Croatia uses the Euro. Given current financial and economic trends, it may pay off to exchange USD for Euro in advance, or at least keep an eye on the exchange rate as we get closer to the wedding to make sure you get the biggest bang for your buck.

Question

I've never traveled internationally before, what should I expect?

Answer

Congratulations, we're so happy this will be your first trip abroad! First of all, the most important thing is to not stress. Dubrovnik is a very friendly and welcoming place, and because it is tourist-oriented, everyone speaks English. Give yourself extra time at the airports, and do some research in advance on transportation options (there are several and they're easy). Book flights and accommodations well in advance, and check out all the different things to do in Dubrovnik. If you're considering extending your trip, feel free to ask us for recommendations, we love to talk about travel!
