Lisa and Brian matched on OkCupid in 2017. She saw his profile and liked that he mentioned the film Frances Ha, one of her favorites. She messaged him about it. Messaging led to texting which led to their first date at Sea Witch in Brooklyn. Over beers and bar food, they covered a lot of ground: growing up in Massachusetts, a shared love of indie music, favorite comedians, and dating in New York. Both agreed that they were finally ready for something real. They didn’t yet know it was sitting right in front of them. Since that night, Lisa and Brian have lived together in three apartments (with their cat Chicken) and traveled together to three countries and fifteen states (Chicken stayed home). They’ve shared countless meals and inside jokes, survived one pandemic, and realized they couldn’t fathom going through life with anyone else. In December 2023, on an unseasonably warm Saturday, Brian and Lisa went to brunch and took a walk after in Prospect Park. On a small grassy clearing across from the Boat House, he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him.
