Our Love Story

Matt and Sarah first met on June 26, 2020 in Fort Kent, Maine on her job interview for Director of Admissions. Sarah started her new job at the University of Maine at Fort Kent in September, a few months later. One of their first memories in early September was trying to stuff a kayak into Sarah's Chevy Trax, which turned into a 2-hour conversation about everything. As Fall turned into premature Northern Maine winter, the two had group adventures of Baxter State Park snowy hiking, fun game nights with colleagues, and cross-country skiing. Matt and Sarah would collaborate weekly regarding Admissions and Athletics at UMFK, which lead to their first lunch at Mooseshack II, to discuss how things were going in those first three months. Later in December, family recipe: chicken parm was made - just the two of them - before friends arrived for game night. And in January, a 5-hour snowshoe hike in the snow-covered piney hills of Fort Kent was had. A memorable day for each of them because of the long and deep conversations that were shared as well as peaceful, snowy moments, enjoyed in the quiet woods. Even after 5 hours the couple couldn't get enough of each other and continued the day at Sarah's place in Eagle Lake - sipping hot chocolate, watching Tom Brady defeat Drew Breeze and the Saints, while doing some relaxing coloring. February 2, 2021 was the first date. An early dismissal from work due to snow started the date at an early bird time of 4:30pm. The two watched movies, cooked 'Chicken a la Gloria' and got completely snowed in. The rest was history... And for the last 5 years the two have traveled to 10 countries, persevered through 2 years of long distance, have stood together on the highest points of 15 out 50 U.S. states, been on 4 cruises, and thrived and survived VanLife together: traveling the country for 6 months to 38 states and 28 national parks, in their trusty and beloved Lucille. Together, they embrace living life to the fullest, recognizing that and seizing opportunities. They have been together through unique and challenging moments and have grown stronger and closer because of it. The two love a good adventure and love a great lake house too. From Eagle Lake - where it all began, to living together in Long Lake, to present-day: Indian Lake - where Matt proposed at sunset on New Year's Eve 2025. Love on the Lake. Prepared to take on marriage like every other adventure, they are tied together in love and excited to celebrate with you <3
