The Pismo Beach Monarch Butterfly Grove is one of only five sites in the state that has counts of over 10,000 butterflies annually. Monarch season is late October through February, so there should be plenty of butterflies at the park in November!

OLD SAN LUIS BBQ CO. 670 Higuera Street www.oldsanluisbbq.com Santa Maria style BBQ and a self-service beer wall with electronic descriptions of each beer (fun!). They are open until 2am on Friday and Saturday nights for late night eats. NITE CREAMERY 570 Higuera Street, Suite 103 www.nitecreamery.com At Nite Creamery, there are no freezers. Say what? They use liquid nitrogen to freeze their ice cream instantly, creating a smoother, creamier scoop of ice cream than those which have been frozen. In addition to the cool factor of the liquid nitrogen, they have fun flavors like Saturdays Cereal, Pineapple Picante and PB Nutella. Yum! CIDER BAR 570 Higuera Street, Suite 101 www.slociderbar.com Enjoy beer, wine and cider selections from around the world. Try their house brand of ciders made using kiwis, white peaches, Asian pears, cherries and pluots, which results in a dry cider rich in complex tastes more similar to wine than traditional sweet apple cider. They also offer small plates.
Thursdays from 6pm-9pm There is street parking as well as a few nearby parking structures. If you can make it to SLO by Thursday evening, we highly recommend checking out the Farmer's Market and Street Party in downtown SLO. It's six blocks of great eating, drinking and people watching. There are produce vendors, local artisans, sweet treats and lots of delicious prepared food stalls from local restaurants. When we were there, there was also line dancing on the street, some local musicians, a kids bouncy house, and an army band. So much fun!
MISSION SAN LUIS OBISPO DE TOLOSA 751 Palm Street www.missionsanluisobispo.org On most day, a guided tour begins at the Mission Plaza doors in front of the gift shop at 1:15pm (2pm on Sundays). Call or check ahead to confirm a docent tour on the day of your visit (805) 543-6850. BUBBLE GUM ALLEY The 700 block of Higera Street In our opinion, Bubblegum Alley is not worth seeking out. If you are downtown anyway, you may want to browse this tourist attraction, known for its accumulation of used bubble gum on the walls of an alley. OTHER There are so many cute boutiques and really, really good coffee shops in downtown SLO. A few recommended coffee shots are Ascendo Coffee, KIN Coffee Bar and Krenzberg California.
If you are a fan of kombucha, you may want to check out the Whalebird Kombucha Brewery. They share their craft on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from Noon - 6pm. If you just want to sample their product, it's available at Kreuzberg California and other local coffee shops as well as most Whole Foods markets.
