This is a 30 min drive from downtown depending on traffic. However, we think it’s worth the drive if you want to see a flight ready Saturn V, stand underneath a flown Space X rocket, learn about the moon landing from the real Mission Control family viewing area, see real longhorns, and so much more. Make sure you book the Saturn V and Mission Control tours in advance!
Our favorite place to go for a walk in Houston. See if you can spot where we got engaged!
Houston has a great zoo! The zoo is located at Hermann Park. Houston does not have a great aquarium. Don’t waste your time there.
We are lucky to have a great Museum District in Houston. The Museum of Fine Arts is one of our favorite spots to visit. Free on Thursdays! P.S. see if you can spot Mary’s favorite sculpture- A Muse by Brancusi
Check out an Astro’s game while you’re in town! They play the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday afternoon!
Stop by Honey Child Sweet Creams and enjoy an ice cream as you walk around the shops. Then, take a walk on the Heights Hike and Bike Trail. We’re not meteorologists but we do not predict any snowfall the weekend of the wedding. Take a look at the snow-covered trail in January!
In need of some retail therapy? While it’s not worth battling the traffic to get here if you get your shopping fix in any other major city. This is the largest mall in Texas! While you’re there, stop by the Waterwall Park, home to a multistory sculptural fountain.
Buffalo bayou park is a great spot to get in some steps and take in the best views of the city! It is also home to a large bar colony. Go to the bar colony bridge at sunset to see the bats fly!
Looking for a day trip? Head down to Galveston to walk along the sea wall and eat some seafood. Don’t plan to spend a beach day here. If you’re looking to extend your stay outside of Houston, we’d instead recommend checking out Austin, San Antonio or Dallas, each within a few hours of Houston, by car.
