It all started with matching Hinge profiles featuring the Grand Canyon, which eventually led to a first date the opening week of 2020. Simon picked Jazz Alley, thinking it would be a fun, low-key night out, only to wind up at a swanky venue filled with great music and even better conversation. The night had a dreamlike energy as if it were right out of a movie. A few dates later in early March, after playing a competitive game of Skittles (just google it) and roaming West Seattle, a discussion took place. The two mutually agreed that a relationship wasn't where they saw things going and chose to move forward as friends. Things probably would have ended there if the world hadn’t shut down the next day. As society came to a screeching halt, Jas and Simon wound up spending a lot more time together, leaning on one another as a primary social outlet in lockdown. An alliance was formed, and unbeknownst to them, rather than catching Covid, they started to catch feelings. After five more months of camping trips, nature walks, and dinners with their bubble, Jas wound up arranging a small rooftop birthday party for Simon. It started to dawn on him that this might be more than just a friendship (thanks to his older brother giving him a subtle kick in the pants). He hung up the call with Sami and immediately rang Jas to ask if she would be open to the idea of dating. Jas, completely caught off guard, answered the phone in the middle of trying to deliver BBQ to a group of hungry girlies. Both left the conversation somewhat confused, wondering what was next. After getting over the initial shock, Simon decided to try again by asking her to be his girlfriend. His timing was perfect, she was leaving the next morning for a massive solo road trip across the country to attend her cousin’s wedding. Why not give her some time to ponder her answer on the open highway and leave him hanging for 10 days? They spoke practically every day of that road trip, but then came the turning point. While driving for hours across Montana, Jas was struggling with cell service and needed to find a place to camp for the night. She was about ready to pull off and sleep in the car, when Simon called. He had taken it upon himself to find a safe campground not too far away. Upon arrival, the camp host welcomed her with an “Oh yes, your husband called ahead and reserved a site for you!” She didn't correct them. Come morning she was pleasantly surprised to find herself outside of Roosevelt National Park, at this point the signs were too strong to ignore. A few days later, after debriefing with her cousins, the decision became clear. Jas was met back at the Seattle airport by a smiley and nervous essential worker in a neon button-up (that would be Simon) and a bouquet of flowers. They were on the way back to her apartment and had yet to broach the topic when Simon’s car engine gave out in the middle of the Highway 99 Tunnel. Stuck under Seattle city-center with nowhere to go, waiting for a tow truck to bring them to safety, Jas and Simon finally agreed to give this thing a shot. Now here they are, about to tie the knot!
