FAQs

The Wedding Website of Avery Jane Wallace and Robert J. Florio Jr.
Question

What's the closest airport?

Answer

The closest airport is Charleston International Airport (CHS), about 45–60 minutes from Kiawah Island depending on traffic.

Question

Should I rent a car?

Answer

We recommend renting a car if you plan to explore Charleston or stay off of Kiawah Island.

Question

If I don't rent a car, can I use Uber or Lyft to get to and from Kiawah?

Answer

Yes, Uber and Lyft are available to and from Charleston International Airport (CHS) and can access Kiawah Island. But, since Kiawah is off the beaten path, there are fewer drivers available so wait times can be longer, especially early in the morning or late at night. Drivers are only permitted to enter the island to pick up or drop off passengers with a valid destination (hotel, condo, home) - so you must have a valid address reserved under your name. There are also several private transportation services available, often at rates comparable to Uber or Lyft. We recommend Caddie Chauffeur (caddiechauffeur.com) if you'd like to arrange transportation in advance for yourself or a group!

Question

Once I am on Kiawah Island, can I use Uber or Lyft to get around?

Answer

While Uber and Lyft can drop off and pick up passengers on Kiawah Island, drivers are not permitted to remain on the island to provide rides between locations. If you're staying as a guest of Kiawah, you can take advantage of the resort's complimentary shuttle service to get around the island.

Question

Do I need to stay on Kiawah to attend the wedding?

Answer

No! Kiawah is a gated island, but don't worry. The main security gate entrance will be aware of our event and allow each guest to pass through. Our Welcome Party venue is just past the main security gate, while our Ceremony and Reception venue, Mingo Point, is actually just before it! Either way - there's no need to stay on the island to access either event.

Question

Can we explore Kiawah if we're not staying on the island?

Answer

Yes! There are several ways to access the island even if you're staying elsewhere. Here are a few options: Visit a friend or family member staying on the island (they just have to arrange a gate pass in your name). Make a reservation at one of the island's restaurants, spas, or golf courses. Book an activity or amenity that includes island access.

Question

Will transportation be provided to and from wedding weekend events?

Answer

Guests staying at Kiawah Island Golf Resort can take advantage of the resort’s complimentary transportation to and from all of our wedding weekend events. We will also be providing complimentary transportation to and from our wedding day festivities for guests staying both on and off the island. More details on transportation schedules and pickup locations will be shared closer to the wedding!
