Our Story

A love story sparked by fate, fueled by tequila, and sealed at Stagecoach.

Kelsie and Austin first met in 2017 as college students hosting together at Boathouse on the Bay in Long Beach. Austin insists they barely interacted; Kelsie clearly remembers training him (possibly multiple shifts — she trained every new host). They were both dating other people, so nothing ever sparked. After Austin graduated and left the restaurant, they drifted apart but stayed connected on Instagram, quietly seeing each other’s stories over the years. Everything changed in April 2022 when Kelsie accidentally reacted to one of Austin’s Instagram stories, fully thinking it belonged to her best friend’s older brother also named Austin. It wasn’t. It was this Austin. The clapping emoji sent itself before she could undo it. He didn’t reply, making it instantly awkward, but it revealed something important: Kelsie was single. His interest officially lit up. A few weeks later, Austin finally replied to her story — a margarita at Topside. One message led to texting, which led to Austin mentioning he wanted to take her on a date “after Palm Springs this weekend.” Kelsie, being a SoCal local, called him out immediately. No one casually goes to Palm Springs in late April; you’re going to a festival. He admitted he was heading to Stagecoach, and Kelsie sent a picture of her boots packed with: “I guess I’ll see you there.” Kelsie showed up at Stagecoach with no intention of meeting up. But on Day 1, after she finally responded to one of Austin’s “Where are you?” messages, she told him she was at Honky Tonk, planning to immediately leave. She hit send, turned around… …and walked straight into Austin. He was at the exact same bar, at the exact same time, needing to order drinks for himself and all his friends but having no idea how he’d carry them back. The timing was too perfect — tens of thousands of people at Stagecoach, and somehow the two of them ended up steps apart in the same AC-filled building. Kelsie, whose friends assumed she’d already made her escape, suddenly found herself helping Austin carry drinks onto the dance floor, where she met his entire friend group — friends he’s had since middle and high school. With awful cell reception keeping her from locating her own group, she ended up spending most of the night with Austin and his friends. Day 2 brought a twist: Austin barely gave her attention, which Kelsie definitely noticed. If he wasn’t making an effort, neither was she. Later that night they finally met again for what was supposed to be a drink but became a single tequila-shot bet. The bartender, clearly on Team Kelsie, chilled her shot and offered a lime… while handing Austin a warm desert shot. They both pretended to take it like champs — though only Austin missed the face Kelsie made behind his back. Day 3 felt different. They spent most of the day together, and by evening Austin asked if he could take her on a real date. Kelsie, still playing hard to get, gave vague answers until he finally said, “I need a yes or no.” She said yes. Their first official date — May 6th, 2022 at SALT in Marina del Rey — was the true beginning. Everything clicked effortlessly. What started as two coworkers who barely spoke, reconnected by an accidental emoji and brought together by a festival of 80,000 people, became the love story neither expected. Now, years later, they’re getting married — proof that timing matters, fate has a sense of humor, and sometimes the universe brings someone back into your life exactly when it’s meant to.
