Shelly and Andrew’s story began on the ice fields outside Juneau, Alaska in 2019. They were two adventurous 23 year olds trying to turn day dreams of life in the mountains into a reality. Both Shelly and Andrew anticipated their lives would change after a summer spent on the ice, but neither of them had falling in love on their Bingo card. Andrew was initially confused as to how a city girl, who was previously living in London, found her way into a glacier camp. He was among quite a few members of the team placing bets on how many days it would be before Shelly quit. A week went by when Andrew began to notice the attention and care Shelly put into both the dogs she was responsible for and the guests visiting the glacier. Shelly was somewhat of an enigma and Andrew was determined to win her over. It all started when the team was snowed in for the day. Shelly struck up a light hearted chat while Andrew lounged in a hammock and watched a double feature of Footloose (the remake). After their conversation, Andrew pursued Shelly with cheeky smiles and somewhat intense eye contact across the dinner table every night. He wooed her with his wonderfully off key renditions of popular Elton John songs and he charmed her with his unassumingly goofy disposition. When summer came to a close, Shelly and Andrew chose to continue their relationship and move into a sprinter van, camping along the shores of Oahu. Shelly was under the impression that living in a tent on a glacier was as rough as it was going to get in terms of housing. She was wrong. While their van had it’s charms, the lack of ventilation had Andrew trying to fasten a surf board to the top of the back doors of the van to keep the rain out and allow the breeze to flow. The bed was slightly too short for Andrew and he spent his nights sleeping across the kitchen counters, while Shelly was not so keen on the public nature of outdoor shower and lack of hot water. Despite the somewhat rough accommodation, Shelly and Andrew’s relationship grew stronger with each passing day. They both believe Hawaii is where they fell undoubtedly and wholeheartedly in love. There wasn’t one central moment where they recognized they were the one for each other, but simply the reality that they would ever walk through life without one another no longer existed. Since Hawaii, Shelly and Andrew’s relationship has outlasted a pandemic, overcome the challenges long distance, and has brought an overwhelming joy and sense of peace to their lives. They are incredibly excited to celebrate their love with all of their nearest and dearest in 2025!
