Tamarindo is a surfing hot-spot known for its beautiful sunsets. It is one of the more developed beach towns along the Guanacaste coast, with many restaurants, bars, shops, hotels, villas, etc. The town itself is about 1.5 miles long and is very walkable.
No, U.S. Dollars are widely accepted as currency in Costa Rica. Bring what you think you will need - ATMs can be hard to find. We recommend small bills for tips! Most taxis are $5 flat fee to get around town. $1 and $5 dollar bills will be your best friend.
Costa Rica is a hot, tropical climate. Light fabrics are your friend. Don't bring jeans, you won't wear them! Many of the walking paths in Tamarindo are uneven and can be difficult to navigate. Additionally, many of the restaurants + bars are in the sand. Bring comfortable (but cute) footwear and do not feel obligated to wear heels at any of our wedding events.
We know everyone says this, but we truly recommend booking your accomodations right away! Speaking to the local hotels and rental companies, they have communicated to us that the "good stuff" starts getting booked a year out. January is the high season and is a very popular time to visit. Be sure to play around with your flight dates to see the best options - in most cities, there are a couple direct flights to Liberia per week - just not every day.
Costa Rica is paperless, so you won't need to fill out paperwork on the plane. However, the customs officer will ask you where you are staying - be prepared with your destination's address.
