The Avenue, a long strip of 36th Street in the Hampden neighborhood, is home to tons of cute shops + eateries. These are just a few of our fav places: Holy Frijoles: visit Brian's longtime friend Nick who runs HF for some great margs, Mexican food and pinball machines! The Bluebird Cocktail Room: a romantic, literary-themed lounge serving classic cocktails and shareable bistro fare. Say "Hi" to our friend JR if you see him behind the bar! The Wine Source: huge selection of wine, beer, spirits, cheeses, cured meats + other phenomenal charcuterie makings Match Made: trendy women's clothing, accessories and some cute home goods Doubledutch Boutique and Changed My Mind Vintage: two cute shops, one on each floor in the same building. We especially love the selection of local + vintage prints upstairs! Charlotte Elliott and The Bookstore Next Door: an expansive collection of antiquities on one side and a never-ending selection of used books you'll want to get lost in on the other
A few places we love and frequent: La Barrita in Butchers Hill - an Argentinian steakhouse and wine bar across the street from our house (say hi to our friends Sebastian, Marty, Claudia, Greg and Elle if you go!) La Cuchara in Hampden - a Spanish tapas bar and restaurant with excellent vibes in Hampden Marta Fine Food & Spirits in Butchers Hill - an excellent cocktail bar and restaurant a few blocks from our house. We did our engagement photo shoot here! The Cannon Room in the Pendry Hotel in Fells Point - a cocktail bar with speakeasy vibes at the waterfront THB Bagelry + Deli - the local bagel place (by "frequent" we mean order on Uber Eats when hungover) Patterson Park - a huge park near our house with a duck pond, dog park, walking/running trails and multiple playgrounds Topside at Hotel Revival in Mount Vernon: a rooftop bar and restaurant. Technically we've only been once but it's great and has an amazing view of the city!
The Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA) encompasses more than 1,000 works by Henri Matisse anchored by the Cone Collection of modern art, as well as one of the nation's finest holdings of prints, drawings, and photographs. The highlight of the museum is the Cone Collection, brought together by Baltimore sisters Claribel (1864–1929) and Etta Cone (1870–1949). Accomplished collectors, the sisters amassed a wealth of works by artists including Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Paul Cézanne, Edgar Degas, Paul Gauguin, Vincent van Gogh, and Pierre-Auguste Renoir, nearly all of which were donated to the museum. The museum is also home to 18,000 works of French mid-19th-century art from the George A. Lucas collection, which has been acclaimed by the museum as a cultural "treasure" and "among the greatest single holdings of French art in the country." The Cone Sisters and their story is fascinating, read more here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cone_sisters
