Explore two beautiful national historic parks, state parks, and country parks. Many visitors find Scenic Washington Byway route the best way to wander around the islands with stops at English Camp, San Juan County Park, Lime Kiln Point State Park, and American Camp. English Camp offers historical buildings, hiking trails and a formal garden. San Juan County Park features unobstructed views of Vancouver Island and a kayak launch site for sunset tours. Lime Kiln Point State Park boasts a well-maintained lighthouse, hiking trails and a dilapidated kiln to explore. American Camp hosts a new interpretive center, miles of hiking trails, and views of three national parks (Mt. Rainier, Olympic, and North Cascades). Plan for a few hours if you want to hit the highlights, or bring your hiking shoes and a picnic lunch from The Company Store. Lime Kiln Point State Park requires a Discovery Pass (available for purchase in the parking lot), but the others are free to visit.
