Things To Do

There is plenty to do on the island, but it's also a wonderful place to slow down, relax, and do very little if that's more your speed. Ocracoke is known for its wide open, undeveloped beaches, but also has great hiking, kayaking, fishing (surf fishing and deep-sea charter fishing), shopping, and multiple ice cream shops! The island has no shortage of history, including being Blackbeard's favorite hangout and the place where he eventually met his demise, and is a wonderful place to explore. Ocracoke has a Preservation Society, a Discovery Center, and a British Cemetery, as well as the oldest working lighthouse in North Carolina and a herd of wild ponies. There is also a ghost town on the island just south of Ocracoke, called Portsmouth Island. We will continue to add to this section with suggested activities, updated events and happenings, and our restaurant recommendations - but reach out to us in the meantime to get recommendations for any specific places or activities!
