Be sure to stop by the famous Mast General Strore, a 1913 emporium brimming with old-time housewares, comfortable clothing, quality outdoor gear and custom-fit footwear for all mountain seasons.
A forty minute drive from Blowing Rock, Linville Falls is a great hike for all experiences and ages. Erwins View Trail, a moderate hike of 1.6 miles round-trip from the Visitors Center, offers four overlooks, each revealing a different aspect of the Linville Falls area.
Visit "North Carolina's oldest travel attraction." The Blowing Rock is an immense cliff 4,000 feet above sea level, overhanging Johns River Gorge 3,000 feet below. The phenomenon gets its name because the rocky walls of the gorge form a flume through which the northwest wind seeps with such force that it returns light objects cast over the void.
