Alex and Roz met at Georgetown University while pursing master's degrees in public policy. Early in the first year of the program, we became part of the same friend group, spending our nights at bars, dancing, and attending the many house parties Alex and our friends hosted. Because we lived in the same apartment complex, we would often share Uber and Lyft rides home together. We hit it off and developed a comfort with each other through connecting about our families and similar childhood experiences. We were friends for over a year before we started developing a more serious interest in each other. When Alex returned from campaigning for Elizabeth Warren in Iowa over the summer between the first and second years of our graduate program, we found a lot of common ground and connected on a deeper level. Roz was struck by how effortlessly they connected—she felt comfortable diving into deep conversations about her work and passion for health policy, with Alex always fully engaged. In turn, Alex was drawn to her genuine curiosity about his life and interests and desire to understand him as a person. When we finally decided to be together, we had only a few months before COVID hit. While the world shut down, it unexpectedly gave us the chance to grow closer, building a deep one-on-one connection. In August 2020, Roz moved to Michigan to pursue her doctoral degree, marking the beginning of our three-year long-distance relationship. In many ways, COVID became a blessing for us, as it allowed us to spend extended periods together while Alex was working remotely. We had many fun weekends exploring Michigan together and developing a shared interest in craft beer. Roz was able to move back to the DC area for the final year of her program, so in July 2023, we settled in together in Arlington, VA. We both have known for awhile that we wanted to commit to each other as lifelong partners and, after settling in together in DC, we decided to take that step forward. On August 17, 2024, Alex proposed to Roz while overlooking the mountains of Shenandoah National Park, and nature immediately began shedding tears of joy in the form of pouring rain. Shortly after the engagement, we visited our venue, Camp Hale, and immediately felt that it would be a special place to commit to each other surrounded by our family and friends. We are looking forward to celebrating this next chapter of our lives with all those who are special to us!
