Winslow is the cute little town right off of the Bainbridge Ferry (5 minute walk). There are tasting rooms, boutiques, antique shops, cafes, art stores, record shops, and all kinds of goodies to explore. It is also right off of a waterfront park that you can enjoy by getting a warm drink and strolling along the water if you would like.
This is a quick and easy, all-accessible walk to a giant, wooden troll. Pia the Peacemaker, created by Copenhagen-based artist Thomas Dambo, is an 18-foot-tall troll made from recycled wood residing in Sakai Park. We first saw these trolls when roadtripping across the country and fell in love with the five of them located throughout the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens.
This place is a beautiful representation of so much of the Pacific Northwest has to offer. Named one of North America's 10 Best Botanical Gardens, Bloedel Reserve is a 140-acre wonder of nature, that has transformed a rough-hewn Northwest forest into a harmonious series of curated gardens, structural features, and distinctive landscapes, with nature as canvas and paint.
The Exclusion Memorial sits at the exact location where Japanese Americans were forcibly removed from their homes on Bainbridge Island and exiled to Manzanar concentration camp in the CA desert. The Memorial Wall winds solemnly down to the historic Eagledale ferry dock landing site, where the first of more than 120,000 Japanese—two-thirds of whom were American citizens—were banished from their West Coast homes and placed in concentration camps during World War II. Bainbridge Islanders were the first to be removed. The Memorial is a reminder—“Nidoto Nai Yoni” (Let it Not Happen Again)—of what happened on March 30, 1942.
Ba Sa showcases traditional Vietnamese dishes inspired by French techniques and the abundance of products found in the Pacific Northwest. We love this place. The food and cocktails here are incredible! This was also where we went to celebrate with a drink after deciding on our IslandWood venue.
Bainbridge Organic Distillers was Washington State’s first distillery producing USDA Certified Organic spirits, and are the state’s only distillery producing 100% of its organic spirits from scratch, on site in their own distillery. They have launched the state’s first organic vodkas, whiskey and gin and strive to make sure that every step in the process is as environmentally neutral as possible and is sustainably and responsibly managed.
