Abiquiu’s Ghost Ranch, a sprawling property just an hour north of Santa Fe, features some of the most spectacular scenery in all of New Mexico. Home to Georgia O’Keeffe and the subject of some of her most celebrated landscape paintings, Ghost Ranch now functions as a retreat center with an archaeological museum, a pool, miles of hiking trails, and is a short drive away from beautiful Abiquiu Lake and Echo Amphitheater.
Kasha-Katuwe, also known as Tent Rocks, is a geologically distinct environment about half an hour’s drive from Santa Fe or Albuquerque. Pyroclastic flow from nearby volcanoes formed hundreds of pointed hoodoos around 6-7 million years ago. The main trail takes you through a slot canyon to the top of a plateau with stunning views of the surrounding landscape, but don’t attempt it when it’s too hot outside!
The historic Lensic theater originally opened as a vaudeville movie house in 1931. Twenty years ago, it underwent a renovation and was reopened as a nonprofit performing arts venue. The Lensic hosts over 200 performances each year and reaches thousands through its education and community programs. We have both been so fortunate to work at this beautiful theater together and hope you’ll have a chance to catch a performance during your stay.
Great for kids (and kids at heart). Meow Wolf's House of Eternal Return is an immersive and interactive art installation that exhibits the work of over a hundred local artists (including a mural by Pat). Built inside a defunct bowling alley, House of Eternal Return opened in 2016 to sold out crowds. Part funhouse, part choose-your-own-adventure mystery with clues scattered everywhere, it also contains a music venue, a learning center, a bar/cafe, and local food trucks in the parking lot.
Santa Fe's largest contemporary art museum, SITE Santa Fe showcases the work of contemporary artists from around the world. Its rotating exhibits feature a wide range of artwork from many different mediums, including emerging and interactive media.
Beloved by locals, La Choza has been voted the #1 New Mexican restaurant in the Santa Fe Reporter's annual "Best Of" competition year after year. Alongside their sister restauraunt, The Shed, they've also been voted Best Margaritas and Best Chile. We recommend making a reservation, as wait times can be long.
Consistently high-quality food and service, Paper Dosa serves up South Indian cuisine, including their iconic paper thin dosas, uttapam, and house-made chutney. Our recommendations - the gorgeously displayed Dahi Vada and the bright and tangy Bhel Puri.
If you're downtown, we recommend stopping for a meal at El Callejon, which is located a couple of blocks away the Plaza and features cuisine from Central Mexico. We recommend the Al Pastor tacos (Pat's favorite) or the Ceviche (Acacia's favorite).
Great food and great beer. Second Street Brewery at the Railyard is easily one of our most frequented restaurants. It is located in the vibrant Railyard District, and is only a short walk away from several other bars, restaurants, and tap rooms. All three of Second Street Brewery's locations - The Railyard, The Original, and Rufina - are located within a five minute drive from the El Rey Court.
