It all began on September 29, 2017, at West Point during an outdoor boxing match. Abigail tried to flirt by pronouncing Brandon’s last name, Akuszewski, and failed miserably. During the holidays in 2022, Brandon received special approval to visit her in South Korea just before a scheduled deployment to Lithuania. After a frantic airport mix-up, he sprinted through security and barely made his flight. That evening, as snow fell softly over a glowing Christmas light display, Brandon pulled out a ring, got down on one knee, and asked her to marry him.
