Poplar Forest was a private retreat and plantation owned by Thomas Jefferson in Forest, Bedford County, Virginia, a 20-minute drive from our main hotel. Poplar Forest was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1971 and is presently operated as a historic house museum by the nonprofit Corporation for Jefferson’s Poplar Forest. The Corporation is also responsible for the ongoing archaeological study and restoration work at the property.
Downtown Lynchburg has loads of antique, coffee, and boutique shops to explore - even a High Tea shoppe. Make a reservation, dress up, put on a fancy hat, and enjoy a nice brunch. If you are a fan of Star Hill, you're in luck! The Star Hill on Main Brewery is a 10-minute walk around the corner from the Virginian Hotel.
