How We Met

One month into starting my first job fresh out of a school, I was living my dream as a Physical Therapist. When my 4pm appointment walked in he noticed that I was “PT of the month” This was only because I was the newest employee. I walked out to see a tall, athletic guy who wanted to return to playing basketball after a knee injury. By the end of the first day evaluation, I knew he was a huge sports fan, loved scuba diving, traveling, and was an adventure junky (and would be referred to as my “hott” patient from then on to my roommate). Zack went home that day and told his roommates that he was going to marry his Physical Therapist and they didn't believe him (jokes on them). We quickly got to know each other professionally 2x/week for 8 weeks. I asked him for advice on fantasy football bets, and he got stronger, more flexible, and was eventually able to perform perfect single leg squats. Once he had achieved his goals and returned to playing basketball and riding his motorcycle, he graduated from PT but not without asking for my number first. We went on our first date to the Irish pub that is now walking distance from where we live and are now regulars. We fell in love over happy hour beers, mutual understanding, live sports, and continuously seeking adventure. AND THE REST IS HISTORY!

The Proposal

I knew I was going to ask Sarah to marry me long before I built up the courage to actually do it. It was a no brainer that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. When I finally became brave enough to ask, there were only two things I had to figure out: Where I was going to ask and what ring to get. I was nervous when picking out the ring because I know Sarah has a very particular style and I am not the best at that stuff. But I was determined to make it as big of a surprise as possible. So naturally, I went and visited my friend Shane. After a few appointments, I found a ring that I thought she would love and bought it! Now I had to decide where I was going to ask her. Our mutual love for nature and the outdoors, specifically the ocean, is the main thing that connected us early on. Monterey is one of our favorite places to visit for numerous reasons including the beaches, scuba diving, the aquarium, and the great food and beer! So, I planned a little getaway weekend to Monterey and after getting brunch, we took a walk to one of our favorite spots, Lovers Point. (Yes, Moose came too!) I was so nervous at this point that when the time was finally right, I got down on one knee, showed Sarah the ring, and almost forgot to actually ask her to marry me. Once I asked and she said yes, we were both so excited. Sarah loved the ring so much I think she was surprised that I picked it out by myself. We got to watch the sunset that night and had a great seafood dinner. Monterey became even more of a special place to us that day.
