Pikes Peak is one of the most beautiful landmarks in Colorado. The views from the summit inspired the words to America the Beautiful. Consider taking the shuttle bus to the top. Vehicle use of the toll road is limited to travelers with small children (car seats) or those that are unable to ride the shuttle bus. Check website for current information.
At an elevation of 6,714 feet above sea level, it is the highest zoo in America. Be prepared to walk, take sunscreen, stop to feed the Giraffe, and make your way to the Primate World. Truly a favorite spot for young and old. Not up for a lot of walking hills, purchase a tram pass for the day.
Enjoy hiking this beautiful Colorado landscape. Seven Bridges Trail follows North Cheyenne Creek and crosses seven wooden bridges within the first mile. The trail offers nice wooded surroundings and rocky terrain that is moderate in difficulty.
The Manitou Incline has been hailed as the holy grail of cardio for locals and athletes, alike. The once railroad track now consists of approximately 2,744 steps made entirely of railroad ties! Although it’s only one mile in length, the ascension averages a 41% incline (68% at its highest) and a 2,000 foot climb in elevation! Phew! That’s a lot of stairs! That’s even more than the Empire State Building! Needless to say, this hike isn’t for the faint of heart, or heights. The Manitou Incline is considered one of the highest sets of stairs in the world! This trail is rated Extreme.
Red Rock Canyon Open Space is sort of a hidden gem. From the parking lot it doesn't look like much, but once you get back on the trails, you'll understand the beauty of the park. The open trails are all pretty mild and walkable by anyone.
Tour these caves learning basic spelunking skills as well as the history and geology of the cave. If searching for a quick thrill the TERROR-dactyl sits on the edge of a 200-foot cliff. Those brave enough to ride will be launched 150 feet into the canyon at nearly 100 miles per hour!
