Man of Honor
Hello, I won’t be at the wedding in person, but I will be in spirit. I’ve known my mom since I was five weeks old, I’m 17 now and will be 18 later this year so it’s been a pretty long time. We’ve been through a lot together. I’m usually pretty weary of people coming into our bubble, but when I saw Derek, he felt comfy right away. Maybe it was our uncanny resemblance, but he felt like dad after I stayed with him for a week while my mom was out traipsing around in the mountains in Eastern Oregon the summer of 2020. While I’m not really on board with all this talk of getting a puppy since I’m in the prime of my retirement years, I do rest assured that my mom will be taken care of long after my days on this earth come to an end. Do me a favor and get my dad on the dance floor, will ya?
Officiant
A little about me. Happiest when outdoors, preferably on a remote river for days on end. Solid ambivert. Flash mobs make me cry. I love the sound of my friends’ laughter from the comfort of my sleeping bag. Perpetual planner. Derek’s friend since 2014 and Party Bud since 2017. Derek and I met and became friends because of a shared fondness for whitewater, board games and sly humor. Witnessing Yvo the first weekend we met, not only understand, but rival Derek’s humor made it very clear he had found his match. I’m beyond honored to hitch these two together for life’s journey!
Bridesmaid
Hillary is a Portland native. Yvonne and Hillary met in 2006 and became close in 2007 when they bonded over NART…which is art with an N. They drew many, many drawings of dogs, cats, unicorns, and friends. They also drove around waving at strangers and asking people if they could pet their dogs. They honestly haven’t changed a bit and are still as close as can be and sillier than ever.
Bridesmaid
Introduced by a mutual friend, Yvonne and I were fast friends after a night of 40oz beers and dancing. Once we saw each other on the dance floor, we knew a friendship was meant to be. Through thick and thin, and most of the photo booths in Portland, we’ve weathered it all and keep each other laughing. #laedaebae
Groomsman
I met Derek at a community kayaking outing with another friend of mine. Derek was the only other person that understood outdoor adventures should end with some grub and a beer. Derek tolerates my mediocre kayaking ability, appreciates my cocktails, ignores my harassment for spending too much vacation time in Utah, and joins me in distain for dancing. #danceorgetslapped
Groomsman
Kong vs. Godzilla, Tupac vs. Biggie, Pepsi vs. Coke, Germany vs. France.... These rivalries pale by comparison to Derek Hancey vs. Todd Deweber. Luckily for mankind and the world in which they inhabit the only greater force between Derek and I is our friendship. We met in 2014 and became fast friends over our love for scary and painful crack climbing. A trip to Leavenworth and then Joshua Tree cemented our drive to find type 2 fun. The first time I was introduced to Yvo we went on a grueling death march of a trail run and I knew she was a perfect match for my arch nemesis.

Buddy old pal is getting married! Growing up, as the (much) bigger brother, Derek’s brand of playfulness led to lots of giggling and then quite often tears. He taught me how to wrestle, play Iron Man on the guitar, rollerblade halfpipes, eat and love Indian food, and dive into philosophical and scientific discussions. He also taught me that restaurant leftovers are fair game for his breakfast! Since Derek has known Yvonne, I have witnessed a new level of tenderness in him that I have never seen before. A simple example of this being his affection towards the infamous, Guapito. But the more resounding evidence being the balance that Yvonne has brought to his life. Congratulations you two! Looking forward to many more great family memories and drum circles!
