After a quick swipe to the right on Bumble, we met up for a drink at a cozy Japanese restaurant in Pittsburgh. After a few hours of—let’s be honest—mostly Yvonne talking—we realized how much we had in common. Both of our moms are from New York City—Elliot’s from the Bronx and Yvonne’s from Brooklyn—and both of our dads moved their families upstate to raise a family. What started as a casual first date quickly turned into something that felt instantly familiar, like home. Five years later, on our first international trip together in Chania, Greece—where Elliot’s father is from—Elliot proposed during a breathtaking sunset overlooking the sea, surrounded by family.
