Old San Juan- beautiful cobblestoned peninsula. There are some really cool shops with local handmade art that make awesome gifts.
There are two forts in San Juan: Castillo San Felipe del Morro and Castillo San Cristobal- San Juan is really a tribute to Spain. Almost everything you see in Old San Juan was influenced by Spain. You will also see Moorish designs.
Museum with ruins from when the Tainos (our native people) used to live there. It’s a nice place to learns about the Tainos and although the Tainos and Arawaks lived all over the island theres only a couple of places in the island that specifically show the land where they lived.
This house is a museum about the family where our Don Q rum was born.
a. Mar Chiquita (N) b. Playa sucia (SW) c. Hidden Beach (by Guanica) (S) d. Playa Tamarindo (S) e. Balneario de Anasco (W) f. Playa la Poza del Obispo (NW) g. Balneario Seven Seas (NE) h. Playa de luquillo!! * (NE) i. Coffin Island (S) j. Crashboat beach in Aguadilla. Great beach. Beware of Rip tides in any beach in PR. k. Playa Jobos, also a great beach in Isabella with food huts.
This is located inland but I love this place! It is an anchaeological site of the Tainos. They have found many of the carved stones petroglyphs that are so popular. You need a guide in order to get a good understanding of the purpose/use of the trees that they have there, the stones and the playground. They have guides but might not be available all the time. I suggest calling before you go to make sure they are open and that they have a guide available. They have an awesome store that sell beautiful local handmade gifts, unfortunately when I went in December the store was closed due to not having enough employees working.
Bio-illuminescent bay is something I highly recommend. I recommend the groups that offer you a kayak instead of the groups that put everyone in a boat. You can have this experience in the South in Cabo Rojo, east in Fajardo… but the best place that I’ve read is Mosquito Bay in Viequez, which is an island off the east coast of PR. You can see old tanks for the military that were left behind when they evacuated the island. The best time to see the phytoplankton is during a new moon.
Things to do in the South of PR: a. Parque de Bombas: small museum of the first firehouse in the island. Very pretty and unique. b. La guancha: Great on weekends, local vendors, restaurants and huge fishes you can feed. c. Centro Ceremonial Indigena de Tibes. d. In Guanica: you can grab a ferry to go to Guilligan Island. e. Castillo Serralles- museum: Where Don Q rum was born. f. Museo de la Historia de Ponce- Great museum but temporarily closed. Unsure if it will open soon
