We met at Menlo College, Jess was the manager of the women's basketball team and X was a player for the men's team. At one of the games, Jess's teammate pointed X out to her. Shortly after the game, a mutual friend had a birthday party where Jess built up the courage to atrempt to talk to X for the first time...it did not go over well. Eventually, like a true product of our generation, we became friends on social media. One evening, we were exchanging messages on Twitter when X gave Jess his phone number (he technically made the *first* move). After many movie and sushi dates, sporting events, and hikes, decided we had some things in common and enjoyed one another’s company, and the rest is history!
We planned a trip to Avon, CO for X's 30th birthday this past May. We don't tend to get up to the mountains that often, especially during ski season, so we decided to take advantage of the off-season and go for a special occasion. The first day we were in Avon, we had a nice dinner planned at the hotel restaurant. X suggested we get dressed up and take pictures before we go to dinner. The hotel sat on the Colorado River, so finding a nice photo opportunity wasn't difficult. X set up the tripod and we took a few photos. X set up what Jess believed was a self-timed photo, come to find out he started recording a video. As he finished setting up the “timer”, he pulled a ring box out and walked over towards Jess, where he got down on one knee and asked Jess to marry him. We both blacked out at that point and have no recollection of what actually happened, but the video is there to prove it actually did happen, Jess eventually said yes, and it could not have been more perfect. We can't wait to celebrate with our closest family and friends in Colorado!
