Adobe façades, live mariachi, the Mormon Battalion Center, and fresh‑pressed tortillas—history served with tacos. Fun fact: our second date was a ghost tour winding through its haunted corners.
Pandas are back at the Zoo, and our annual passes keep us coming for more: hippos bounding beneath the water’s surface, orangutan babies perfecting their somersaults, and a fennec fox whose oversized ears steal every show. All this wildlife wonder sits just a short stroll from the venue.
We usually save our nautical adventures for smaller vessels, but the USS Midway Museum is worth stepping aboard: wander the vast flight deck, climb into restored fighter jets, and tackle hands‑on simulators inside this storied aircraft carrier.
Rent bikes at the ferry landing, cruise past the Hotel del Coronado, and wind up in Spreckels Park, where free Sunday concerts fill the island with summertime vibes—one of our favorite weekend rituals.
Sample the Saturday morning Little Italy Mercato for espresso, fresh pasta, and local crafts—then come back at Christmas when they light what may be the world’s tallest Charlie Brown tree (we never miss it, scraggly charm and all).
Our wedding coincides with Comic-Con weekend, so if you’re into Marvel, cosplay, or superheroes, it's a great opportunity to check out the event—or at least enjoy some fantastic people-watching downtown! Either way, we strongly recommend booking your accommodations early.
La Jolla Shores is perfect for sunbathing, beach games, or a leisurely stroll along the sand. For a bit more adventure, join a guided kayak tour through the La Jolla Sea Caves and Ecological Reserve. Katie and JD come here often for sunsets and tide pool explorations.
