Question

What should I wear?

Answer

** IMPORTANT- both the ceremony and reception will take place outdoors on uneven ground, so you probably don't want to wear high heels. ** Vintage formal attire is encouraged! As scholars of history and theatre, we love a nod to vintage fashion of eclectic eras - anything from the early 1900s up through the 40s/50s. Fashion inspired by the 1920s & 1930s is especially apropos, as our reception will feature a very danceable 6-piece swing band. Or... Merchant/Ivory anyone? (https://thefashioneaste.com/tag/merchant-ivory-productions/). We do most of our vintage shopping at https://www.etsy.com/. Color recommendation: Shades of white, ecru, or warm sunrise spring-time colors are encouraged. Examples: white, cream, ivory, blush, burgundy. That said we want you to be comfortable for this all-outdoor wedding, so wear whatever makes you feel springtime-festive-fabulous. Just don't forget your dancing shoes!

Question

What will the weather be like?

Answer

Springtime weather in the Sierra foothills can be unpredictable, but based on historical averages we're anticipating mid-60s to mid-70s during the day and down into the 50s at night, so bring warm layers! We have an event tent, propane heaters, and campfires to keep us cozy, but dress prepared to spend some time outside under the sun and stars (we recommend straw hats and parasols for sun, and coats & gloves for the cold).

Question

Where should I stay? Give me the lay of the land please!

Answer

All wedding related festivities will take place in Greeley Hill, Ca. Greeley Hill is considered a neighborhood of Coulterville, which is the nearest tiny Gold Rush era town about 15 minutes away. A somewhat larger nearby town is Groveland, which is about 25-30 minutes away. A whole range of accommodations are available from camping to resorts, with various hotels and Air BnB's in-between. Book early to beat the Yosemite tourism rush. Check out the Where to Stay link for more.

Question

Where can I buy food?

Answer

We suggest you stock up on food for your stay in towns and cities before you get to the mountain wedding location. Once you're here, the nearest market to the wedding site is Mar-Val in Groveland, about 25 minutes away.

Question

Will I need a car?

Answer

** Ubers and Lyfts are not available in this area.** All the wedding related festivities are within easy walking distance along Converse Road in Greeley Hill. If you're not staying on Converse Rd., you will probably need a car to get there. It is likely we can help you arrange rides with other guests if you get in touch.

Question

I am planning to visit Yosemite while I'm in the area. Will I need a reservation?

Answer

April 13 through June 30: A reservation is required from 5 am to 4 pm on Saturdays, Sundays. More Info: https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/reservations.htm

Question

So, well, what do you expect from me actually?

Answer

Come love and be loved. Songs, speeches, toasts, poems, monologues, puppetry, dance performances etc. are highly encouraged! Definitely bring your musical instruments for campfire jams.

Question

Did I hear something about a Swing Band?

Answer

Yes! The 6-piece Swing Band 'Death and Taxes' will be playing at our reception. Featuring extra danceable arrangements, sultry vocals, and a whole lot of rhythm, The Death and Taxes swing band is unavoidably swingin'. https://www.deathandtaxesswingband.com/

Question

What should I pack?

Answer

* Musical instruments for campfire jams * Good walking shoes/hiking boots * Warm layers for nighttime revelries * Hats, gloves, parasols for sun protection (ideally vintage fashion fabulous) * Sunscreen * Bug Spray * Swim suit * Food for meals that aren't part of the gathering * Poetry books for sharing your favorites over morning coffee (Andy & Rachel's morning ritual)
