If timing is a character in every love story, then she has been quietly present in each chapter of ours for years - and I mean that more literally than most people do when they say it. We've collected missed connections like a running joke: the same flat in Zurich (yes, really), the same random cooking class in Rhodes, Greece (also, really), two very international humans somehow orbiting the same places without ever landing at the same time - until the chapter changed. Sam and I technically met at work in 2022, over Teams, because modern romance loves a calendar invite. It was an ordinary "new colleague" moment… so ordinary, in fact, that only one of us remembered it. It wasn't me. (I have absolutely no memory of it, which remains an ongoing point of contention. When I asked him about the details, he said that I was obviously beautiful, but he was struck by how clever, and witty and passionate I was, that I was different in a way he couldn't shake. Now, whether that is true or he was trying to prove a point, I don't really care... I love that he said it. ) What I do remember is November 2023 - coming back from an assignment in Switzerland and finding each other again, this time in the same city, in the same room. I remember him distinctly: the genuine passion, the work ethic, the absolutely earnest excitement about chocolate - made even more impressive when I learned he's T1D and can't really enjoy it the way most people do. That's just Sam. He doesn't care halfway. He cannonballs into the deep end; I'm more of a toe-dip-then-commit kind of person. Somehow, that contrast didn't divide us - it balanced us. By late summer of 2024, the "colleagues" storyline evolved. Long walks back to Charlestown - where we'd unknowingly lived two blocks apart - became my favorite part of the day: the kind that started as "just a walk" and ended as "how is it already midnight?" Those walks turned into fall dates, which turned into family holidays, which turned into moving in together, which turned into the quiet certainty that this wasn't sudden at all. We had been years in the making. On New Year's Eve 2025, we finally said out loud what the universe had been hinting at for a while: we should make this a forever thing. And in March 2026, Sam made it official - in a bookstore, which is honestly the only place I'd want my love story written into the next chapter. It was a private moment where he wandered me past the shelves I would have lingered at too long, and somewhere between the cooking section and the candle light (yes, there were candles), he got down on one knee. Romantic, a little literary, and completely, perfectly us: a girl who has always believed in stories, and a boy who had clearly been planning his for a while. After a love story built on almosts and maybes, we're not interested in waiting anymore. We’re choosing the absolutely-and-right nows, and we can't wait to start our forever chapter together in Scotland. We are so excited to celebrate with you.🤍
