In the summer of 2023, just before Patti began law school, she took a job as a halfway house attendant at Shoreacres Golf Club in Lake Bluff, Illinois. At the same time, Will had just started his internship there in the agronomy department. Neither of them knew it then, but God’s plan for their vocation in life was about to become clear. One quiet, sunny afternoon, Will noticed Patti behind the counter, and she noticed him too. With an easy smile and a bit of courage, Will walked over—not just for a refreshing lemonade, but to talk to the pretty girl who had caught his eye. Patti thought he was cute too and secretly hoped he’d come back. After a few more lemonades and stolen glances, Will finally worked up the courage to ask her out. Their first date was a playful round of mini-golf, filled with laughter and friendly competition. The very next evening, on the Fourth of July, Will invited Patti to watch the fireworks at the golf course. As the sky lit up with bursts of color, sparks flew between them too—and from that night on, the rest was history. That fall, Patti began her three-year law school journey at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, while Will finished his degree at North Dakota State that winter. Shortly after graduating, Will moved to the Chicago suburbs to be closer to Patti. Now, almost three years after they first met, they are so excited to be saying “I do” and beginning the next chapter of their lives together!
