Nicole and Will met in 2019 at a Campus Outreach campus ministry meeting, but it wasn’t until the summer of 2020 that Will decided he wanted to get to know the really pretty girl that he’d met a year prior. After shadow boxing in his front yard for five minutes to build up the courage, he made the call, starting the conversation with, “Hi Nicole, this is Will Crooks and I work for Campus Outreach at IU. Do you remember me?” She did, and said yes to a coffee date (which because of Will’s opening line, she wasn’t sure if it was a date or a fundraising meeting for his ministry). Nicole and Will began going on dates and realized quickly that they shared more in common than they expected: they loved the musician Vance Joy, felt called to overseas ministry, and liked reading authors who had died at least 50 years ago. After only a few dates, each realized that something special was going on and they became eager to spend as much time with each other as the 66.5 miles between Bloomington (where Will lived) and Indianapolis (where Nicole lived) would allow. Over the course of their dating, acquaintanceship turned to friendship which turned to love and they soon became eager to share their lives with each other, serving Christ alongside one another. On July 1st, exactly one year after their first coffee date/fundraising meeting, Will proposed to Nicole at the same coffee shop he took her for their first date. While there are so many things that they love about each other, what gets them most excited to spend the rest of their lives together is their shared love for Christ. Seeing how Christ so perfectly and self-sacrificially loved each of them on the cross is what they hope will empower them to imperfectly and self-sacrificially love each other. They are so excited to celebrate the beginning of their marriage with you!
