FAQs

Subject to updating if we get more common questions. Don't be afraid to ask us stuff!
Question

Date change, what's with that?

Answer

Yep, you guessed it, our plans got corona-ed. We've been able to reschedule the party with the same vendors for October 9, 2021. With that in mind, we're keeping the rest of these FAQs mostly intact.

Question

When should I RSVP by?

Answer

Well, obviously this has changed in light of COVID... ballpark is mid-September of next year, but we'll update this with a more concrete RSVP date later.

Question

What's the dress code?

Answer

Cocktail attire, please. Vintage and secondhand wear is by no means required but absolutely encouraged (let's be real, the fast fashion industry is kind of awful). Have fun, dangit! Bend gender as much or as little as you want! Make Tan France proud! Also, there will be a lot of dancing, so if you’re not super comfortable in heels PLEASE have mercy on your feet. Related: because virginity symbolism and purity culture are toxic misogynist bullshit, Whitney's wearing silver rather than white. Just an FYI. :)

Question

What is parking like at the venue?

Answer

Because the event is on a weekend, you're free to park in either the Ironworks or Brassworks lots. Additionally, you can use the St. Bernard Church parking lot a block away or park on neighborhood streets.

Question

Is this one of those unplugged weddings?

Answer

Yes, the ceremony will absolutely be unplugged, and we reserve the right to (lovingly) shame you if your phone goes off in the middle of the ceremony. :) The reception won’t be unplugged, though, and if you’d like to post action shots to social media, please use the hashtag #havewhitneywilltravel.

Question

What’s your policy on kids?

Answer

For multiple reasons, including a firm guest list cap and budget concerns, we’ve decided to make this an adults-only event.

Question

What’s the alcohol situation?

Answer

We’re having a dry wedding, actually. Will doesn't drink, and Whitney drinks maybe once in a blue moon, so we decided it wasn't worth the money. If you want to pregame, that's your business -- although we should note that outside alcohol CANNOT be brought into the venue, seriously, we will absolutely get kicked out. Trust us, though, if we're doing our jobs right, you won't need alcohol to have a great time.

Question

Ooh, 1920s theme? I love Gatsby weddings!

Answer

Thanks, we love the 1920s aesthetic too! But ours isn't a Gatsby wedding, unless by that you mean "calling attention to the folly and excesses of the upper class and decrying the notion that grand expensive gestures are the biggest show of both love and one's worthiness as a romantic partner"... Actually, come to think of it, we're TOTALLY having a Gatsby wedding.

Question

Congrats to the soon-to-be Kellys!

Answer

Thanks! As much as we appreciate the sentiments, though, Whitney is a proud Lucy Stoner* and will absolutely positively be keeping her last name. *Not that kind of stoner. If you have no idea who we’re referring to, look up 19th-century feminist and certifiable badass Lucy Stone.
