We met at the wedding of a mutual friend, Isaac Sung; Whitney was an old friend of Isaac's from undergrad, and Will knew him from swing dancing and a Star Wars RPG group. The reception featured a bluegrass band, and at one point the bandleader decided it was time for some called dances. He told us to get in a big ol' circle and hold hands with the people next to us. Will had spotted Whitney earlier and took a chance on sidling up next to her. The first dance we did was called the hoot and holler, and there are three steps to it: (1) Run in a circle to your right. (2) Run in a circle to your left. (3) Run into the middle of the circle, while SCREAMING YOUR HEAD OFF, and then run back out. So for the first ten minutes of our acquaintance, we didn't say a word to each other -- we were just running in a circle and screaming. We got along like a house on fire once we started talking, though, bonding over our mutual love of superheroes and swing dancing. Whitney was finishing her masters degree in Canada at the time, so we didn't think anything could actually happen. After almost two months of flirting constantly over the Internet, though, we finally came to our senses and gave things a go. Obviously it's worked out.

Compared to the romcom-ness of our meet-cute, our proposal was simple: we decided to ask each other. We took a weekend trip to Minneapolis for our second anniversary, specifically heading to Minnehaha State Park to pop the question(s). We saw the waterfall, wandered around the trails, and found a suitably private bench on which to exchange tokens of affection and get sappy. And then we went for pizza. It was great.
