Travel Note
Florence is very walkable, and you'll easily be able to explore it by foot from anywhere in the center. The neighborhood closest to the Villa while still staying in Florence is San Niccolo, located just east of the Ponte Vecchio and "Oltrarno", which literally means "the other side of the Arno River (south side). You will be able to reach all of the tourist attractions by foot without issue. The rest of Florence is also fair game and lovely, just note: The shuttle cannot drive into the historic center, so if you want to avoid heels on cobblestones or a longer walk after the party is over from the shuttle stop back to your accommodation, we recommend staying in the vicinity of San Niccolo (south side) or just north of it in Santa Croce (north side). Florence has many hotels, but we often find the best stay (especially in a neighborhood like San Niccolo) is found on Airbnb or booking.com.
Shuttle
September 14, 2024 3:00 pm - 3:45 pm
A shuttle will be running from Florence to the Villa from 3-3:45pm before the ceremony, and back to Florence in the evening during the final hours of the event. The pickup and drop off location will finalized after we understand everyone's accommodations better, but it will be near San Niccolo on the south side of the river, or Piazza Mentana on the north side, near Santa Croce.
Flight
For the easiest travel, we recommend flying into Florence's Peretola airport and either taking a taxi to your hotel / airbnb, or hopping on the tram to Santa Maria Novella if you don't mind walking with your bags in beautiful cobblestoned Florence. You can also fly into other major cities in Italy and get around easily by train. If you use trains, make sure to book directly on either Trenitalia or Italo's websites (the two major train companies) , and avoid third parties vendors. Don't forget to keep the time change into account! You will likely lose a day traveling to Italy from the US by the time you factor in flight times and the time change. We recommend Google Flights for searching, and avoiding SAS and TAP Portugal airlines, unless you want a 28 hour layover in Copenhagen (then again, could be fun!). Flights are at their peak prices in Spring as people make arrangements for summer. We typically place flight alerts on Google Flights to watch our ideal days and times, knowing they will go up and down a lot. Typically, flights won't get any cheaper than they are 3 months ahead of time, so we recommended booking by mid-June to avoid last minute spikes.
Train
Trains in Italy are a great way to travel. If you plan to see other cities before and/or after our wedding, Santa Maria Novella is your station to come and go from. Look for train tickets from Trenitalia or Italo directly on their websites.
