Things To Do

Most everything in San Miguel de Allende is walkable. In the city center, there are many historic buildings, art galleries, restaurants, bars, and shops. Outside of town, there are archeological sites, vineyards, hot springs, and a church famous for its chapel fresco paintings. Horse back riding and hot air balloon rides are also popular.

Cañada de la Virgen

Kanjada De La Virgen, Gto. 36233, Mexico

An Otomi archaeological site about 15 miles outside of SMA. You can visit the archaeological site from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday to Sunday, with two-hour tours departing every hour (the last tour leaves at 4 p.m.).

Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel

S/N Principal, Zona Centro, San Miguel de Allende, Gto. 37700, Mexico

A towering parish church overlooking El Jardín plaza. The neo-Gothic church was originally built in the 17th century, inspired by European catherdals. Entry into the church is free. You can visit the interior each day, but keep in mind this is a working church and visits are discouraged during Mass, which happens several times every day. Fabrica la Aurora

S/N Calzada de La Aurora, San Miguel de Allende, Gto. 37710, Mexico

Fabrica La Aurora is a former textile factory that now houses dozens of art galleries, design studios, and boutiques by local and international artists.

Santuario de Atotonilco

UNESCO World Heritage Site about half an hour outside of SMA.

Viñedos San Lucas

Scenic vineyard and winery about 20 minutes outside of SMA.

Zandunga

Latin jazz and buffet dinner at a ranch open only on Sunday from 1:30 to 5. Located about 20 minutes drive from the center. Tickets and transportation should be arranged ahead of time. A lot of people say this was their favorite thing to do in SMA.
