We're Getting Married!

Their friends both dragged them out for the night, against their will, to go dancing at Club Scorpio. Wendy was dancing by herself when Valerie spotted her across the floor and thought her dreads were cute. Valerie approached first and they ended up dancing together all night. At the end of the night, Wendy's phone was dead and Valerie thought it was her excuse to not exchange numbers, even though Wendy really did want to stay in touch! Wendy gave Valerie her number instead. Valerie texted her the next morning, they went on a date a week later–and the rest is history!

Two years ago at the beach, while clinging to a boogie board for dear life, Valerie asked Wendy if she would be her girlfriend. Ever since then and over many more vacations, Kiawah has had a special place in their hearts and their relationship, so Wendy knew she had to propose there. They took a long walk on the beach at sunset. Valerie knew something was up because Wendy never wants to walk as far as they did that evening and Wendy was taking a long time watching the sun set and being extra weird about it (she was trying to get Valerie to walk ahead so she could write in the sand, but that didn't work out). Wendy pulled the ring out of her pocket and they both immediately started crying. Wendy had a whole speech prepared but she forgot it almost instantly- Valerie let her stumble through it anyway. Valerie said YES and they walked back to the villa to call their friends. It was a perfect evening. A few months later, after they had purchased Wendy's ring, Valerie got her back. They had ordered takeout from their favorite restaurant and ate it at home on the couch. Valerie said that the restaurant included fortune cookies this time and gave Wendy one. Wendy opened her cookie and saw that her fortune read "Will You Marry Me?" She turned around to tell Valerie about this crazy coincidence and realized Valerie was down on one knee!
