The Wedding Website of Wendy Briggs and Matthew Gaughan

Travel Note

Hotel Information

Several 2- and 3-star hotels are located near Springfield Town Center, which is approximately four miles away from the venue and a ten minute drive. For those seeking more luxurious accommodations, we recommend looking at options in Alexandria (which has a great old town area) or Tyson's Corner (which is known for its luxury shopping malls). All three areas are very close to the Metro, which is the DC subway system, though finding accommodations within walking distance of a stop is unlikely. If you plan to explore DC, we highly recommend taking the Metro; it's one of the nicer city public transit systems we've ever used, and driving in DC is terrible. We would be open to reserving a hotel block if there is interest, but wanted to hold off on this unless interest was expressed. It is worth noting that there may be some 9/11 memorial events in DC on the weekend of the wedding, so hotel rooms may book up slightly faster than usual.

Airport Information

DC has three commercial airports: Washington National (also called Reagan National), Dulles International, and Baltimore/Washington International. If you're staying in Springfied or Alexandria, Washington National is definitely closer, and it's a very easy Metro ride. For those staying in Tyson's Corner, Dulles will be closer, and a much easier Metro ride, but Washington National is worth considering. If staying elsewhere, check specific information about your location, but know that either option should be fine. We strongly suggest NOT flying into Baltimore/Washington unless you are planning on spending a significant amount of time in Maryland during your trip. It's much closer to Baltimore than it is to Washington and is more than an hour's drive away from the venue!
