Grab your pack and head out to explore the famed Adirondack wilderness! The following hikes are within approx. 1 hr of Lake Placid: - Ampersand Mountain - Cascade Mountain - Baker Mountain - Mt. Marcy - Algonquin Peak - Mt. Jo Please use caution when hiking. Plan ahead: bring layers, a headlamp, plenty of water, and a compass/map. Do not solely rely on your phone (including All Trails for navigating) and bring an extra battery. Please note that it is illegal to launch or land drones from designated wilderness areas in the Adirondacks - this includes most (if not all) hiking trails. And most importantly, leave no trace! The Lake Placid Olympic Museum commemorates the 1932 Winter Olympics and 1980 Winter Olympics, which were based in the Olympic village of Lake Placid. Totally worth a visit if you like hockey, team USA, nostalgia, or history, Olympics, pins, ... Robbie says go for it.
High Falls Gorge is a 22-acre privately-owned nature park. Since the 1890s, they've had safe trail access for all ages to an otherwise inaccessible narrow granite walled gorge with four spectacular waterfalls. Today, sturdy steel bridges, walkways, and groomed walking trails will navigate you through their rich history and beautiful views. Could be cold come wedding time, but they're a true gem of the Adirondacks. Tickets required, but definitely fun for the nature enthusiast.
