See firsthand why Vermont is known as the Green Mountain State. From the Appalachian Trail Trailhead to the many state parks in the area, there are multiple trails in the area for all skill and activity levels.
Rent a bike at the shop or bring your own and explore the town or the miles of bike paths and trails surrounding Manchester.
A visit to Vermont would not be complete without stopping by a farm, farmers market, or both. There are multiple to choose from in the area, but we recommend Taylor Farm in Londonderry for animals and cheese and Dutton Farm Stand outside Manchester for other produce. We also highly recommend getting a "creemee" from the machine, Vermont's version of soft serve ice cream infused with maple syrup. There are also a variety of local orchards and berry farms that offer pick your own that can be easily found online. Availability depends on the year's harvest, so please call ahead. August is usually blueberry, blackberry, raspberry and the very beginning of apple season.
Summit Mount Equinox in your car, the highest peak in the Taconic Range. At 3,848 feet above sea level, Mount Equinox offers a 360-degree view of Vermont, New York, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and, on clear days, Montreal’s Mount Royal. Cars are $25 and the last cars are allowed up the mountain at 4pm. Seeing the sunset is unfortunately not an option.
Manchester is home to three different golf courses with full view of Equinox Mountain - The Golf Club at The Equinox, The Ekwanok Country Club, and Manchester Country Club.
Check out the interactive Pastime Pinball Museum and the galleries at Southern Vermont Arts Center. Afterwards, grab a bite to eat at our favorite brunch restaurant, the Little Rooster Cafe, or one of the other great restaurants in the area.
The Battle of Bennington, part of the American Revolutionary War, took place on August 16, 1777, in Walloomsac, New York. A force consisting primarily of New Hampshire and Massachusetts volunteers led by General John Stark and reinforced by The Green Mountain Boys militia from the nearby Vermont Republic, decisively defeated a large detachment of the British Army under the command of Major General John Burgoyne, leading to his eventual surrender at Saratoga two months later. The battle was a major strategic success for the American cause and is considered part of the turning point of the Revolutionary War. The Bennington Battle Monument is a 306 foot high stone obelisk commemorating the battle and is the tallest building in Vermont. The monument is located 30 minutes South of Manchester in Bennington, while the battlefield and historic site is located close by just over the border in Walloomsac, New York.
