One of our top recommendations is the architecture boat tour on the Chicago River. Learn about the history of Chicago, its beautiful architecture and have a drink! There are a few different boat tour companies and they are all good. You can make a reservation online. Trust us on this one, it is a must.
A newer addition to the downtown, the Riverwalk is the perfect place to spend some time walking, seeing the city and having a drink.
Chicago is home to some of the best restaurants in the US and world. Whatever type of food you like, you will find it here. Of course, everyone must have a Chicago hot dog (hold the ketchup!). Deep dish is another favorite but don't go too far out of your way because we plan to have some at the reception! Here are some favorite restaurants for you to consider: Publican (farm to table), The Purple Pig (meat & cheese/bistro), Ramen San (ramen noodles), Green Street Meats (BBQ), Manny's Cafe (deli), Au Cheval (burgers), Maple & Ash (steak)... and MANY more. Send us a note if you want a recommendation! The nicer the place the earlier you should make a reservation.
The Skydeck at the Sears Tower (we refuse to call it the Willis Tower) is probably the best view of the city. It will be very busy but if you're willing to wait, it is worth it. You can buy tickets online.
Millennium Park is a great place to walk around with beautiful views of the city and of course, Cloud Gate aka The Bean! If it's your first time as a tourist in Chicago you should check it out. From there you can walk to Grant Park, Buckingham Fountain and the museum campus.
The Lakefront is one of our favorite places in the city, where Vince has enjoyed many runs and bike rides, including the Chicago Triathlon. It's a great place to walk around and see the lake, including many beautiful skyline views. Just walk east, you can't miss it!
Chicago is home to many world-class museums. They are a classic stop for tourists and can be a great use of a couple hours. The Art Institute, Field Museum, and Shedd Aquarium are downtown and the top picks we would suggest. There are others to explore as well!
Ok, so it's not our favorite situation to have the first ever NASCAR Chicago street race the weekend of our wedding, but we would be remise if we didn't mention it. If you're a big NASCAR fan and want to spend some $$$$ on tickets, you can definitely find a ticket for Sunday. (Probably not Saturday if you want to go to the wedding!)
