Things To Do

brantingham lake

NY

The bride and groom will be staying in Brantingham for the week leading up to the wedding, and if you’re thinking of turning your trip into a mini vacation, we highly recommend staying in the area! Brantingham is the heart of upstate charm, with plenty to do both on and off the lake—boating, kayaking, paddle boarding, sandbar lounging, hiking, ATVing, fishing, and exploring nearby state parks. It’s the perfect place to slow down and soak up some fresh mountain air. That said, Brantingham is a remote and quiet spot. You’ll find two local restaurants, a gas station that also serves as a post office, and a general store with sandwiches, beer, and some basic groceries—so come prepared for small-town living at its finest!

Bring your clubs and swing by Brantingham Golf Club! It’s a casual, no-frills course with tons of character—perfect for a relaxed round with friends. No tee times, no dress code—just show up whenever you’d like and enjoy the scenic (and fun!) course that winds around the Adirondack forest.

lowville

Lowville, NY 13367

For those staying in Lowville, here are a few things to do during your visit. Please note: Lowville is a very small town, and everything is easily walkable if you’re looking to get some steps in! Saint Drogo’s Coffee & Bakehouse – A really unique spot located in the town’s former jail. Great coffee, pastries, and a fun atmosphere. Lloyd’s Diner – A true classic diner experience. Jeb’s – Local favorite for casual American comfort food. Tony Harper’s – Pizza, wings, and pub-style bites. Saturday Farmers Market (Fairgrounds) – Fresh produce, baked goods, and local vendors. Tug Hill Vineyard – Just a 5-minute drive. Head up to the venue for a wine tasting and beautiful views. Whetstone Gulf State Park – About 10 minutes away. A great spot for hiking and exploring the gorge.

local farm stands

As you drive through Lewis County, keep an eye out for roadside farm stands tucked into driveways and corners—you’ll find everything from fresh eggs and just-picked vegetables to seasonal berries and, Melissa’s personal favorite, farm-fresh chocolate milk. It’s the perfect way to get a taste of the area (literally)!

old forge

Old Forge, NY

About 45 minutes from Brantingham, Old Forge is a charming upstate lake town perfect for those arriving early or looking to explore the area. This historic hamlet offers plenty of local shops, cozy restaurants, and classic Adirondack character. Families will love a visit to Water Safari—the local water park—and outdoor lovers can take advantage of the great hiking trails, scenic views, and all the laid-back fun that comes with true upstate lake life.

fishing or boating

If you plan on fishing or operating any kind of watercraft during your visit, you’ll need to have the proper license. The good news is that New York offers short-term licenses, so you don’t need to commit to a full year, perfect for a weekend or vacation. For anyone interested in fly fishing, you’re in luck, Melissa’s dad is an avid fly fisherman and would be happy to serve as your personal guide on the water. Whether you’re a first-timer or have your own gear, he’ll help you find the best local spots and maybe even teach you a trick or two.
