Things To Do

Whether you're visiting from out of town and need recommendations for Friday or Sunday, or if you're just looking for things to do in the morning before our wedding, this is the page for you. If you've met Victor, you'll know why much of this is food. Please note: Some of these places might be temporarily closed or have new restrictions due to COVID-19.

Liberty Bell and Historical Sites

526 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106
, (215) 965-2305

If you haven't already seen it, you might as well take a look at one of our nation’s most famous symbols. The Liberty Bell Center is free; it's also next to the open-air exhibit of The President's House. It’s a short walk from our ceremony site. You can also complete some of the Constitutional Walking Tour (click "View").

Franklin Fountain

116 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106
, (215) 627-1899

Victor and I went here the day we met, and after our first date, and MANY other times. Our favorite flavors are Honeycomb and Creme de Lafayette, and their banana split is almost too big for even Victor to finish! Check out their nearby sister shop, Shane Confectionary, for some old-timey sweets. Franklin Fountain is cash only.

Reading Terminal Market

51 North 12th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107
, (215) 922-2317

Victor and I went “Facebook official” by posting a picture from our trip to Reading Terminal Market. The Amish macaroni salad at Beiler’s is top-notch.

Jim's Steaks

400 South Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147
, (215) 928-1911

If you feel the need to make a cheesesteak run, try Jim's. Although Victor would insist that tourists should go for an Italian roast pork sandwich instead.

Serpico

604 South Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147
, (215) 925-3001

Victor is obsessed with Serpico, and he makes it a mandatory stop whenever people visit. If you're looking for a fancier place to eat on Friday or Sunday, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu here. Victor’s favorite dish is the Raw Diver Scallops. Bonus fact: Serpico is where we celebrated our first Valentine's Day.

African Small Pot

6505 Woodland Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19142
, (267) 713-7603

ASP will be a bit out of the way for most guests, but we love their West African and Nigerian food and are regulars here. If you stop by, make sure to say hello to Bokar and order wollof rice with your meal.

Cafe La Maude

816 North 4th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19123
, (267) 318-7869

This is Victor's favorite brunch spot. If you're looking to start your day off right, look no further than Cafe La Maude. It's home to the best eggs benedict around (Sweet Potato Benny). Their noteworthy sister restaurant, Suraya, is also nearby and offers a mouthwatering rose-pistachio cruller.

South Philly Barbacoa

1140 South 9th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147
, (215) 360-5282

If you can get in before they sell out on Sunday morning, you won't regret going to South Philly Barbacoa. Their handmade corn tortillas are so good that connoisseur Ana eats them plain whenever we go. Trust us, you don't want to order their largest size. SPB has been featured on multiple Netflix shows.

Philadelphia Zoo

3400 West Girard Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19104
, (215) 243-1100

The Zoo was one of our first dates. We fell in love with baby giraffe, and Victor accidentally poked me in the eye with the beak on a flamingo hat.

Barnes Foundation

2025 Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Philadelphia, PA 19130
, (215) 278-7000

If you’re staying on Sunday, check out one of our favorite museums. On the day the we met, Victor told me that the Barnes was his favorite place for a date. He didn't get the hint when I later asked him to go with me there to a special Renoir exhbit.

Philadelphia Museum of Art and Rocky Steps

2600 Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Philadelphia, PA 19130
, (215) 763-8100

Admission to the Art Museum also gets you complimentary admission to the Rodin Museum. Note: If you want to pose with the Rocky statue, it is now off to the side at the base of the steps.

The Mütter Museum

19 South 22nd Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103
, (215) 560-8564

While the squeamish might want to look elsewhere for entertainment, the Mütter has a fascinating selection of medical oddities. Victor and I especially loved the giant megacolon!
