After a brief introduction at Stardust Ballroom where Liz and Victor each were practicing, the pair ended up at Black Horse Diner for a late-night meal. Victor ordered a cheesecake to tide him over before his three dinners arrived, and Liz watched him practically unhinge his jaw to inhale the slice. Liz should have been disgusted by the spectacle, but instead she found it charming. That was when she realized that "love at first sight" might just exist after all. Victor thought Liz was hot.
Throughout their first year of friendship, Liz and Victor traveled together to Stardust for weekly practice and spent 3+ nights a week together at New Deck Tavern, usually winning Quizzo. Victor had no idea that Liz liked him despite Liz's many attempts at what she thought was obvious flirting. One summer night during a house party at Liz's, their friend Vichet suggested streaming a ridiculous show called Jean-Claude Van Johnson. After an episode, the rest of the group left; however, Victor asked to keep watching with Liz. The pair binge-watched the entire six-episode season that night and had a long heart-to-heart. In August 2018, Victor and Liz went to Crabfest with friends at City Tap House. Victor ate so much crab that his fingers went numb from a combination of micro-cuts and Old Bay seasoning. Afterward, Victor came back to Liz's and the two talked into the early hours of the morning. After Crabfest, Liz decided that she would tell Victor that she liked him the next time that they were alone. She wouldn’t get the chance until her birthday.
While preparing to host her 29th birthday party, Liz cut through her left ring finger with kitchen shears. Urgent Care recommended that she stay for stitches, but she left in order to make her dinner plans with Victor, Ana and Allison at The Royal Boucherie. Following dinner and the party, Ana convinced Victor to stay at the apartment rather than to leave with the rest of the guests. Liz and Victor ended up talking in the living room until 5:30 a.m., when - after an hour of prodding from Victor - Liz finally confessed her crush. He said that the feelings were mutual, and the two have been dating ever since. Since it was then officially the morning of her birthday, Liz considers Victor to be her best-ever birthday present. Liz's finger ended up being fine, but she still has a scar. On July 18, that finger will have a wedding ring on it as well.
Liz and Victor realized from the beginning of their relationship that they would eventually be heading to the chapel to get married. On the two-year anniversary of the day their worlds collided, Victor brought Liz back to Stardust Ballroom to reenact that first meeting. After a bit of dancing, the duo drove to Black Horse Diner, where Liz suspected that her sapphire would be brought out with the cheesecake. But as she started to get out of the car, she saw that Victor was already on one knee in the parking lot. Much crying followed. Victor highly recommends parking lots as places to propose.
