Question

What’s the plan for COVID safety?

Answer

We’re really committed to the continued good health of all our favorite people (that means you!) so we’re asking everyone, ourselves included, to be extra conservative leading up to the wedding. Wear masks on airplanes, avoid crowds, make sure your vaccinations are up-to-date, and get tested. We want everyone to arrive healthy! (And if it turns out at the last minute that you’re feeling poorly, we’d much prefer to celebrate with you later than put anyone at elevated risk.) Our ceremony and cocktail hour will be outside, and we plan to keep all doors open in the clubhouse during dinner for good airflow. But if you want to opt just to attend the ceremony, please let us know and we’re happy to accommodate. You’re absolutely welcome to wear a mask through any parts of the event that you like, and remember: if this is too big an event for your current welfare, we will still love you forever and we will find another time to party with you!

Question

What should I wear to the ceremony and reception?

Answer

If you want a dress code, go for cocktail attire. Suits, summery dresses (not ball gowns, probably), dressy jumpsuits, etc. If you want a ~vibe~, aim for “cozy coastal cocktail” – we want you to feel fancy but comfortable, and equipped with layers given that weather right at the seashore can be unpredictable. It could be warm and sunny, it could be breezy, or we may get a visit from the fog!

Question

How do I get to the ceremony?

Answer

The ceremony and reception will both be at the Half Moon Bay Golf Links, at 2 Miramontes Point Road. We’re providing two shuttle pickup locations at our recommended hotels (The Half Moon Bay Lodge is one pickup spot, and the other spot will be near both the Quality Inn at Miramar Beach, and the Miramar Inn and Suites). The shuttle will bring you to the event and then back when you’re all partied out! Official shuttle schedule TBA. You’re also welcome to drive yourself and take advantage of the self-park or valet options. Follow signs for the Ritz Carlton from Cabrillo Highway/Highway 1, and stay to the right past the hotel driveway.

Question

Can I bring my kids/boyfriend/college roommate/neighbor’s dog/guy I met at the park last week?

Answer

Love that enthusiasm! But we’re space-limited, so the people listed on your RSVP are the only people invited. Let us know if you think we might have overlooked someone, though.

Question

What else is happening that weekend?

Answer

The ceremony and reception are the big events, but Vicky will be hosting a morning tidepool excursion on Saturday, and everyone is invited to the morning-after brunch (details to follow!). Check out the “Things to Do” tab for more excellent Half Moon Bay activities – there’s something for everyone!

Question

Do you have a registry?

Answer

Some of you already gave us gifts in the long, long process of planning and executing this wedding! Please know we remember and are grateful to you -- please don't feel the need to get us anything else! We did make a registry of some fun stuff in case you’re excited about gift giving. But in lieu of gifts for us, we’d love for you to consider a donation to Samaritan House. We both regularly volunteer there, and it’s a fantastic organization that feeds and shelters our community in San Mateo. Check out the “Registry” tab for more information!

Question

What kind of whales am I most likely to see from the ceremony?

Answer

Vicky just KNEW someone would ask this question. She was certain of it. You may very well see humpback whales from the cliffs at the ceremony site! You can also look for dolphins, harbor porpoises, harbor seals, and sea lions down in the water. And with any luck, we’ll get a pelican fly-by.

Question

What does a humpback whale look like?

Answer

Another sterling question. If you spot a whale from the cliffs, you're most likely to see its breath first. That will look like a tall cloud erupting from the surface of the ocean -- about ten feet tall! Then, you'll see a long black back with a short, curved dorsal fin about halfway along. If you're very lucky, you might see the whale jump out of the water. Then you'll see the humpback's characteristic long, flexible pectoral flippers and its accordion-folded mouth and throat, both often splotched with white. If the whale dives, you might catch sight of its curved tail fluke before it disappears beneath the waves.

Question

A whale once bit my sister.

Answer

Well, that's not really a question, now, is it?

Question

No, realli. Whale bites can be quite nasti.

We apologize for the fault in the FAQs. Those responsible have been sacked.
