On December 15, 2012, Andrew asked Alicia to be his girlfriend. They spent two and a half years dating long distance while she was at Penn State and he was at the University of Richmond, spending summers together first in New York City, then in Europe during their study abroad experience, then in Richmond. After graduating in 2015, the two moved in together in Middletown, NY... then almost immediately realized that they wanted to live somewhere else. They had recently traveled to Charlotte, NC and fell in love with the arts district, NoDa. They could see themselves starting a life together there, so they packed up their bags and moved down there on a whim. The two quickly discovered that NoDa was the perfect neighborhood for them. They both got jobs they loved (along with side hustles they were passionate about), made incredible friends, and found their go-to spots throughout the city. They adopted the world's most beautiful dog, a Great Pyrenees named Luna Lovegood. There were tough things they had to get through in their lives together, certainly. But the good parts of their life always outshone the bad. Then, Andrew took Alicia to Curacao to celebrate their fifth anniversary. On December 15, 2017, he took her to a private beach where he had laid out photos of each of the milestones of their relationship strewn with rose petals. He walked her through their history with one another, explaining what each milestone meant to him. Then he gestured back to the path behind them when they got to the last photo, a recent one of them in Charlotte. "This is where we are now," he said. "As you can see, there was a long path to get here. And it may not have been a traditional path, but it was ours. We did it in a way that was uniquely us, and now I want to start a next chapter and a life together with an even longer path that is uniquely ours."
