If you have the time, we highly recommend The Cliff Walk! It is a 3.5 mile public access walk around the back of Salve Regina and the mansions, with scenic water views. We recommend parking at Easton’s (First) Beach and entering The Cliff Walk at The Chandler. Then return walking along Bellevue avenue (the renowned avenue of the rich and famous) to view the awe-inspiring mansions.
Part of the long, winding roads along the coast of the island, see sweeping views of the ocean as well as lots of mansions including the houses of Jay Leno and Judge Judy! We recommend stopping for a libation on the lawn at the Castle Hill Inn for iconic views of the Narragansett Bay and Atlantic Ocean.
Newport is full of historic places and offers tours of myriad mansions including the Elms, RoseCliff, and the Marble House to name a few... but there is no question that the Vanderbilt's "Breakers" mansion is the largest and most fascinating of them all. We highly recommend the Viking Tours Newport Trolley Tour with Breakers Mansion. It is the perfect pick for guests interested in the history and architecture of Newport.
You must eat at least one lobster roll while you are in Newport! The twin lobster rolls from the snack bar at Easton’s (First) Beach are chockfull of fresh lobster meat and arguably the best in town! The butter based lobster rolls are also delicious. You can park in the public parking lot for free and walk up the stairs to order from the snack bar. BEWARE of the seagulls that will relentlessly try to snatch your food!
